In the spring (June) of 1967 "The Gowell Bros" along with their mom and dad and their Cocker Spaniel "Lucky" started out from their home town (Auburn Cheap Martin Prado Jersey , Me.)For Oneonta, N.Y. with an old beat up Edsel, to Join their new teammates in Oneonta, N.Y. (New York Penn League). After Larry Gowell-pitcher (a 4TH round pick out of Edward Little H.S) signed a bonus contract "negotiated by his dad"). Older brother "Dick" later known as (Ace Diamond-artist) penned a free agent agreement the same day as his brother leaving a Semi-Pro ball team in Auburn; at the time he was hitting over 400 as an outfielder) .Both boys were then assigned to the Oneonta N.Y. Rookie League to play baseball that summer!.. (Very Exciting First Day for the family)!!!!!

Well, Oneonta is in upstate N.Y. and the day of the trip to N.Y. the dad (Mr. Gowell) was "more then excitable" and doing the driving, "God help us all"! to say "we talked a lot of baseball on the trip" would be an understatement to put it mildly! In fact, so much "Hot Air" was circulated we actually got off the track on the way to Oneonta! None of us were paying attention to the road(map) or where we were headed? "Mom" kept saying "Are you sure you're on the right road"?? Of course we weren't .and we ended up going 70-75 miles out of our way before we realized it, we stopped to have a nice picnic lunch to try and calm down get our bearings in a beautiful spot near a babbling brook "off the beaten path" for sure! That was all well and good. But lord only knows where we were? We kept on "yacking about baseball" and we eventually found our way out of the wilderness to a major route (By some strange miracle!). I think it was more? Crazy Luck?. Getting back on track, then it had to do with any of us "paying more attention to the road"! The way we were going we could have ended up right back in Maine or worse!

O.K. The trip to Oneonta took us a few extra hours to get there, but believe it or not? Although we arrived a bit tired and grumpy, we were all still "very excited about getting a "bird's eye view "the Oneonta Stadium", a spacious clean cut ball park (a pitcher's park we noted) It was a really neat rural town!, So we all felt right at home in "Oneonta". It featured some wooded areas and rolling hills.much lot like Maine!! You may or may not believe this "BUT? ?We had absolutely no trouble finding our apartment". We settled right in!

**A side bar to our trip. Well, as it turned out that "The nice little spot near the babbling brook" wasen't so nice after all, as "Dick" got a bad case of poison Ivy & was placed on the disabled list (a few days later) for a few weeks)!. "Larry" went on to go undefeated 3-0 that year, after being 16-0 out of High School! BEIJING, March 21 (Xinhuanet) -- After 90 years wait, the translation of Old English poem Beowulf by Author JRR Tolkien will be published in May for the first time.

The translation was completed in 1926 -- and the new publication will be accompanied by further thoughts on the text, which Tolkien prepared for a series of lectures given at Oxford during his academic career.

After seeing The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings achieve literary success, Tolkien died in 1973, leaving behind many unpublished works.

The new work Beowulf: A Translation And Commentary has been edited by his son Christopher Tolkien.

"The translation of Beowulf by JRR Tolkien was an early work, very distinctive in its mode, completed in 1926",Christopher Tolkien said,"He returned to it later to make hasty corrections, but seems never to have considered its publication."

Beowulf is the longest epic poem in Old English, the language spoken in Anglo-Saxon England before the Norman Conquest.

It tells the story of a struggle between the hero, Beowulf, and a bloodthirsty monster called Grendel.
