Much has been made about the Panthers beating the Giants on Sunday on Graham Gano‘s 63-yard last-second field goal. Little has been made about the fact that Gano’s field goal wasn’t actually “last second.”In reality C.J. Anderson Jersey , there was one second left on the clock after Gano’s field goal, which means the Panthers had to kick off. And the Giants nearly returned that kickoff for a touchdown. It hasn’t been talked about much this week, probably because most people watching the game switched to another game (or had it switched for them by the local affiliate) Russell Color Rush Shepard Jersey , but the Giants had a real chance at using a multiple-lateral, “Stanford band” type of play and turning it into a touchdown. The kickoff (video here) went deep into the end zone and was initially fielded by Odell Beckham, who brought it out from the back of the end zone and got to about the 20-yard line before he lateraled to Elijhaa Penny. Penny quickly pitched it to Sterling Shepard Jordan Scarlett Jersey , who ran it past the 40-yard line before flipping the ball to Jawill Davis. Davis looked like he had quite a bit of room to run along the left sideline, but he couldn’t get a handle on the ball when Shepard pitched it to him, and the ball went out of bounds to end the game. The play was unusual in that Gano kicked it deep into the end zone https://www.carolinapanthersfanshop.com … ler-Jersey , and that Beckham decided to bring it out of the end zone. Usually in that situation teams prefer squib kicks, and if the ball goes into the end zone the receiving team usually settles for a touchback and tries to score on a multiple-lateral play on offense from the 25-yard line.It didn’t work, but it was a fun play that deserved a little bit of attention. Which it didn’t get on Sunday. 2018 was a thrilling season as Dallas came back to take the NFC East after a 3-5 start. But they did so by slim margins Anthony Brown Color Rush Jersey , and that is not sustainable." Dallas Cowboys GeneralCowboys can’t continue relying on winning close games to succeedNew,90comments2018 was a thrilling season as Dallas came back to take the NFC East after a 3-5 start. But they did so by slim margins, and that is not sustainable.CDTShare this storyShare this on FacebookShare this on TwitterShareAll sharing optionsShareAll sharing options for:Cowboys can’t continue relying on winning close games to succeedTwitterFacebookRedditPocketFlipboardEmailRemember this lucky bounce?Photo by Ronald Martinez/Getty ImagesThis week, our blog network, SBN, has been doing “what if” posts (for examples we ran earlier, see here and here). Most of these are team-specific, but sometimes offerings at other sites also have something relevant to say about the Dallas Cowboys. That was the case in a piece at our sister site Pride of Detroit, which, as you may have guessed, covers the Lions. Here is the premise:Just to clarify, in that article any game decided by eight points or less falls into the category of a one-score game. An eight point margin can at least be tied with a touchdown and a two point conversion. The idea is that, given the large effect luck has in NFL games where an errant bounce of the oddly shaped ball https://www.dallascowboysfanshop.com/Joe-Looney-Jersey , among other things, can change things dramatically, one score games are in many ways just a coin flip with a near 50-50 chance of going either way. There are games where the final margin is not really indicative of how close things actually were, especially, as the author notes, when the losing team puts up a meaningless score too late to change the outcome. But in general, unless you win or lose by more than those eight points, the game could easily have gone the other way.As it turns out, the Cowboys played in twelve one-score contests in the 2018 regular season, and both their playoff games also fit. They only really ran away with one game, the 40-7 offensive explosion against the Jacksonville Jaguars. On the flip side, they only had one true blowout loss in the regular season to the Indianapolis Colts, with a couple of two-score losses as well. (I define a blowout as at least three scores Mike White Jersey , or 17 or more points.)So what did the exercise in the article from POD come up with for a “what-if” record for the Cowboys? It ain’t good. The (-5) is the change from the real results of 10-6 that gave Dallas the NFC East crown. Only the Miami Dolphins had a bigger swing at -6, while the Los Angeles Rams, who also went on to the Super Bowl, as you might remember, had the same as Dallas. Oddly, no team would have improved more than four games under these criteria. This is something that has been looked at before. Our Michael Strawn examined the success and failure rates of the Cowboys in one score games back at the end of the 2017 season. He found a good bit of correlation between overall record and one score game results, so he was not sure of just how much luck played a part. Still, it is widely believed that a high percentage of one-score victories is unsustainable. The solution is obvious: score more points. And that may be a clue as to just why the Cowboys were in so many of these close affairs in 2018. There was an apparent tendency under former offensive coordinator Scott Linehan to play it close to the vest when he had a lead. In other words, the conservative and unimaginative play-calling just got more conservative and easier to predict when the team had a lead. That, in turn, led to stalled drives and punts, rather than scoring opportunities. Another way to put it is that the Cowboys played to not lose when they got ahead. It is a form of situational football, and it is not a wise one. To use another football cliché Damien Wilson Color Rush Jersey , if you let the other team hang around, you are playing with fire. There needs to be a different philosophy, one that hopefully Kellen Moore will bring to the team. If you have the football, you play to score, and you play to score touchdowns rather than field goals whenever possible. No safe plays to set up a punt, no running the ball to position the kicker better. Be less concerned about controlling the clock, and more about using the time to get on the scoreboard. Every call should be designed to either move the sticks or get into the end zone. Yes, this is another vote in favor of more passing and less running, especially on first and ten. But that is how you build up a bigger margin in your favor, avoiding those close scores and reducing the impact of random things, like a missed call.Of course, there are still going to be one-score games, and you want to come out on top of those as well. It is interesting that the NFC representative in the Super Bowl was in much the same boat as the Cowboys. That is a bit deceptive https://www.dallascowboysfanshop.com/Te … ens-Jersey , since they only had seven one score games in total, but the were winning them at about the same rate as Dallas. In contrast, the Rams had four blowout wins, and two more two score victories. We have talked a lot about the changes that Moore should bring to the Cowboys’ offense, and expressed concern about whether he will be allowed enough freedom by head coach Jason Garrett. But this goes beyond Xs and Os. It is about the mindset of the offense. That is certainly something where Moore has to come to a meeting of the minds with his boss. Just as his past would indicate that Moore will be innovative, unpredictable, and less conservative, it also hints at more of, for lack of a better term, a “killer instinct”. I am not prepared to say just how Garrett will come down on that. He ran some pretty wide-open offenses in his offensive coordinator days, and I suspect that Linehan had far too much influence on things. We will have to see.It might be that the issue will be mitigated just by Moore finding a more effective rhythm to his plays. If he is able to move the ball against defenses better, the scoring could just grow organically out of that. In any case, the Cowboys would be better off with fewer close games (as long as they are on the winning end). Last season was not something that can be easily repeated. It seems incredibly likely that Sean Lee will return to the field this Sunday when the Cowboys take on the Washington Redskins. For the first time ever Tavon Austin Jersey , the Cowboys defense isn’t aching for his return, as rookie Leighton Vander Esch has been spectacular filling in. In fact, he’s been the best rookie linebacker so far. Dallas is certainly eager to get a veteran as talented as Lee back on the field. When they line up in their base 4-3 formations, they could possibly get Lee on the field at the same time as Vander Esch. They would need to move LVE to the strong side in that situation assuming Jaylon Smith stays in the middle, relegating Damien Wilson to the bench. When they switch to a nickel package, they’ll have to choose between linebackers if we assume that Jaylon Smith will stay on the field for most of the snaps. The Cowboys will have to do some swapping of positions, but in the end who should get the majority of the snaps next to Smith, Lee or Vander Esch?

The Cowboys are loaded in the offensive line and in the defensive line. Their backups and some players who might not make their 53-player roster already have drawn trade interest from other teams.Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones said Wednesday the team has received calls from other teams. Some have offered a safety in return Deonte Thompson Color Rush Jersey , knowing the Cowboys didn’t address the strong safety position in the offseason the way they had hoped.“We’ve already started getting a few calls, people needing things and knowing that we might need, thinking we might need a safety. Would we be willing to trade this player for that player?” Jones said during the team’s annual golf tournament at Cowboys Golf Club. “I think this is going to pay off for us. We’re not in any hurry. We feel good about our safety position. I just think we’ve got a good situation. Now we’ve just got to keep working.”The Cowboys didn’t get involved in the bidding for Earl Thomas, and they didn’t draft a safety with a high choice. They did sign George Iloka in free agency and drafted Texas A&M’s Donovan Wilson in the sixth round.Iolka and Wilson will compete with incumbent Jeff Heath to start at strong safety, with Xavier Woods at free safety.“I just think it’s hard to think just anybody’s going to upgrade us there https://www.dallascowboysfanshop.com/Sean-Lee-Jersey ,” Jones said. “[The secondary coaches] really like our situation back there and not just anybody fits, as we all know, with what we’re trying as an organization to get accomplished at that position. A lot of people may say, ‘Well, there’s a safety; there’s this safety; there’s that safety.’ It’s got to be a safety that works for us. We’ll just continue to work through that. We’re not going to be any hurry. We’re comfortable with the guys we have. We know we can go out and play really good defense with the guys we have Tyron Smith Jersey , and it’ll be interesting to see how some of these new guys compete with the older group.” Jason Witten, who has 15 seasons of experience, said last week the 2019 Cowboys roster is “the most talent I’ve seen.”Ezekiel Elliott hasn’t played as long, with 12 fewer seasons. But the Cowboys were the No. 1 seed in the NFC his rookie season of 2016, with seven Pro Bowlers Jason Witten Color Rush Jersey , so it’s not like he has played on untalented teams. The star running back, though, agrees with Witten: The 2019 Cowboys are talented.“I’m just excited about the group of guys we have,” Elliott said Sunday, via Jon Machota of the . “I’m excited about the talent we have on this team. I’m excited about the leadership group we have. I think we have a lot of the right pieces. I think we have a lot of promise for this season.”The Cowboys return all 22 players who started the divisional-round playoff loss to the Rams https://www.dallascowboysfanshop.com/De … nce-Jersey , and they have center Travis Frederick and Witten coming back. Frederick spent last season recovering from Guillain-Barré syndrome, a disorder in which the immune system attacks the body’s nervous system in response to illness, and Witten was in the Monday Night Football booth. The Cowboys also have added Robert Quinn, George Iloka and Randall Cobb. So, on paper Ibraheim Campbell Jersey , it seems the Cowboys do have a lot of the right pieces in place.

Joe Flacco didn’t play in the Pro Football Hall of Fame Game. He is expected to make his first appearance of the preseason in the Broncos’ preseason game in Seattle on Thursday night.According to Jeff Legwold of ESPN Bradley Roby Color Rush Jersey , Broncos coach Vic Fangio said many of the team’s starters, including Flacco, will get at least limited work against the Seahawks. The Broncos still are deciding which quarterback will replace Flacco. Rookie Drew Lock got some work with the second team Monday and received more snaps in 11-on-11 than Kevin Hogan or Brett Rypien combined, according to Ryan O’Halloran of . Flacco took 42 snaps in 11-on-11, followed by 28 for Lock, 10 for Hogan and 10 for Rypien, per O’Halloran.Hogan started the Hall of Fame Game against the Falcons and played 15 snaps. Lock played 28 and Rypien 23. Fangio has admitted he was hoping for more from Lock Von Miller Jersey , who completed 7 of 11 passes for 34 yards. His throwing motion allows receivers to catch the ball on target and at the highest point. In each drill Lock carried himself with confidence, as he appeared eager to work and learn. During team reps, Lock worked with the third team offense and showed dramatic improvement with his footwork. He took snaps from under center (three-step and five-step drops) Jeff Heuerman Color Rush Jersey , demonstrating agility and precision compared to a slower and choppier drag that he played with at Missouri. Lock also implemented quick decision-making, as he readthrough his receiving progressions, highlighting his immense field vision. His biggest play came in the form of a 50 yard touchdown pass to Brendan Langley. Lock’s biggest strength also has the ability to make him vulnerable in the NFL. When pressured, he relies on raw athleticism, maneuvering both in and outside of the pocket as he continues to read receivers downfield. Literally “armed” with power and velocity, Lock has a chance of delivering a strike downfield on every play. However, he has the tendency to throw sidearm when a defender closes in Menelik Watson Jersey , overcompensating the throw with his big arm. Sidearm throws are widely viewed as a bad habit because they are wildly inconsistent and can lead to turnovers.Throughout the day, Lock was right on the hip of quarterbacks coach T.C. McCartney, asking questions and showing the ability to be coached. When he was not actively involved during team reps, Lock practiced snaps from under center with back up offensive lineman, and studied starting quarterback Joe Flacco’s reps. “I feel a lot more comfortable with the play calling and playbook today compared to OTA’s and mini camp,” Lock said after practice, saying that during the five-week vacation period he worked specifically on his footwork and dedicated time to knowing the playbook inside and out. “First off https://www.broncosfanstore.com/Darian-Stewart-Jersey , Coach Scangarello is 100 percent the man,” Lock said. “I love that guy. He teaches in such an awesome way. He’ll let you go out there and make a mistake and not rip you for that mistake unless you go back out there and do it again. Coming from a quarterback standpoint, at least me, I like that kind of coaching. “Let us go out there and fail a little bit, throw everything at us. Once we come back, dial it in, get into the meeting room and really teach on the board and teach on the film Max Garcia Color Rush Jersey ,” Lock added. “It’s something he’s really good at as well as being able to explain things on the board. A lot of guys need to come out here and run through everything in real life but he’s super good at teaching you and getting you ready in the quarterback room rather than having to take a full live rep.” When head coach Vic Fangio was asked about what improvements he is looking to see from Lock, he noted “improvement in all areas.” “Command of the offense, command of the line of scrimmage, decisions on where to throw the ball—how quickly he can make those decisions. Everything. Just become a quarterback,” Fangio said. With day one of training camp in the books, the clock has officially started ticking for Lock and his development as the quarterback of the future for the Denver Broncos.

The Chicago Bears sat the night out thanks to their acquisition of Pro Bowl pass rusher Khalil Mack, but the other NFC North teams were trying to get the right combination to close the gap between them and the division champs. Here’s what each team did last night. Detroit Lions8th overall - T.J. Willie Snead has a knack for weaving through a row of linebackers in the middle of the field before making a clutch catch for the Baltimore Ravens.Such was the case last Sunday against Tennessee New Orleans Saints Kaden Elliss Jersey , when Snead squeezed between two defenders for a 24-yard gain on a third-and-17 from the Baltimore 15."He's on the ground, he makes the catch, he's getting pushed back to the ground, stepped all over, and he just gets up and gives the first-down signal right there in the guy's face," Ravens coach John Harbaugh said. "That's the kind of competitor he is. He's all ball, all the time."Baltimore general manager Ozzie Newsome rarely chases restricted free agents, but he made an exception with Snead this past offseason after it became apparent that the receiver's three-year run in New Orleans was done. One of Drew Brees' favorite targets in 2015 and 2016, Snead began last season with a three-game suspension for violating the NFL personal conduct policy. He then fought a hamstring injury and finished with just eight catches for 92 yards and no touchdowns.Armed with a two-year, $10.4 million contract, Snead was delighted to arrive in Baltimore last April."Last year just left a really bitter taste in my mouth, the organization and how everything was handled," Snead said Tuesday. "To be a part of this organization was just a breath of fresh air. I wanted to go somewhere where I'm wanted."It couldn't have worked out better for Snead 鈥?and the Ravens."To see that you were right, to see all that come together and him play so well New Orleans Saints Kaden Elliss Jersey , being exactly what you thought you were going to get, is very rewarding," Harbaugh said.Snead was one of three free agent receivers signed by Newsome in an effort to enhance a passing game that sputtered in 2017. Snead is the possession receiver, Michael Crabtree provides an outside threat and John Brown is the speedster.Snead and Crabtree are tied for the team lead with 30 catches. Brown has 21 receptions for a team-high 424 yards and three touchdowns."I don't have the physical ability like John Brown to run by you, and I'm not big and strong like Michael Crabtree," Snead observed, "so I have to work harder than everybody else just to stand out."That's how it's always been for Snead, who finally finds himself in a place where his talent is acknowledged and appreciated."This is a guy that's been doubted his whole career 鈥?high school, college and the NFL," Harbaugh said. "So I'm fine if they keep doubting him."After starring as a quarterback at Muskegon Heights in Michigan, Snead played three years as a receiver at Ball State before going undrafted in 2014. He finally made it to the NFL the following year."Coming out of college, (people said) I left too early, I wasn't ready to play in the NFL," Snead recalled. "And in the NFL Cheap Kaden Elliss Youth Jersey , it was, 'Is he fast enough to separate? Can he make those plays in clutch situations?' I've always been doubted."Not anymore."I'll tell you one thing, Willie comes Sunday ready to play," Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco said. "He's one of the toughest guys I've been around."This Sunday, the Ravens (4-2) host the Saints (4-1). Snead insists this wasn't one of those games that he circled on the calendar."This is another team. I have to approach it that way just to stay focused," Snead said.New Orleans coach Sean Payton has seen enough of Snead this season to know he's a threat with the ball, and without it."He has a tremendous amount of grit. You see him making plays on third down," Payton said. "He's an outstanding blocker. He'll come across in motion, he'll get to the point of attack in the run game, but he'll also find the holes in the zone and man-to-man coverages."The 5-foot-11, 205-pound Snead has no problem mixing it up with anyone, large or small, at any spot on the field."He can go inside or outside, but man New Orleans Saints Kaden Elliss Jersey , he makes some 鈥?scouts call them blood area 鈥?catches," Harbaugh said. "In the middle, that's where he thrives." NEW ORLEANS (AP) — The latest chance for Saints fans to show Drew Brees their gratitude for the many memorable, triumphant moments he’s brought them comes on Thanksgiving night. The Saints (9-1) are riding an NFL-high, nine-game winning streak as the rival Atlanta Falcons (4-6) land in New Orleans, so don’t expect a sleepy crowd in the Superdome, no matter how well-fed.Some 13 seasons after Brees embraced the challenge of resurrecting a downtrodden franchise in a disaster-ravaged city, his level of play, at age 39, appears as high as ever.He is on pace to break his own single-season record completion rate of 72 percent. His touchdown-to-interception ratio is 25-1. And the Saints, averaging 37.9 points per game, are threatening to score more points in a season than any team in NFL history.“He’s been as challenging a guy to go against over the years as you can imagine,” Falcons coach Dan Quinn said, adding that he’s been particularly struck by Brees’ accuracy and decisiveness. “To say he’s doing it better than ever — he’s been doing it pretty well for a long time Womens Kaden Elliss 2019 Jersey , but I’d say he’s certainly doing it as well.”With the luxury of a strong offensive line and running game — not to mention playing with a lot of leads — Brees has been able to throw selectively and efficiently. He has also benefited from receiver Michael Thomas’ monster year, but demonstrated in a 48-7 win over Philadelphia on Sunday that he can connect, to prolific effect, with younger, lesser-known targets as well.“There’s a lot to be said for experience,” a grinning Brees said as he reprised an old expression about wisdom trumping youth and skill.“When we step on the field, I feel like I can see it before it happens, and it takes a lot of work to get to that point. That doesn’t mean there’s not surprises. … but I feel good playing the game right now.”The Falcons aren’t feeling so good about their season so far. Their last-second loss to Dallas last Sunday dropped them five games behind the NFC South-leading Saints with six games left.“We’ve got to get the bad taste out of our mouth,” Atlanta receiver Julio Jones said. “It’s going to be a great game. We’re going to have fun. People are going to fly around. People are going to get up. You don’t have to worry about people not being ready to play this game. … We’re just going to be out there swinging.”Some other prominent story lines surrounding the 100th meeting between the Falcons and Saints:COMPETITIVE BALANCEWhile the teams are spread apart in the standings, they played each other pretty close the previous time they met in Week 3 in Atlanta. New Orleans needed a late TD to force overtime and won in the extra period. The Saints are nearly two-TD favorites in the rematch, which would seem appropriate given New Orleans has outscored its past two opponents 99-21 combined. But Brees’ experience against Atlanta tells him otherwise.“These are always hard-fought games,” Brees said. “They’re games that typically come down to the last possession.”Added Saints defensive end Cameron Jordan: “They have a potential high-ceiling offense. … This is something we have to be aware of.”BEASLEY’S REVIVALVic Beasley Jr., the 2016 NFL leader with 15½ sacks, finally showed a return to his form with two sacks against the Cowboys last week. Beasley had five sacks in 2017 and only one sack in Atlanta’s first nine games this year. The Falcons hope Beasley’s resurgence continues this week against Brees. “You have to find ways to pressure New Orleans Saints Wil Lutz Jersey ,” coach Dan Quinn said. “His efficiency without getting hit or without getting moved is so high.”RUNNING SAINTSIf Alvin Kamara fails to match the 190 yards from scrimmage he had against Atlanta in Week 3, it might have less to do with Atlanta’s defense than with fellow Saints running back Mark Ingram’s resurgence. Ingram did not play in the previous meeting because of a four-game suspension stemming from his positive test for a banned substance. In their past two games, the Saints have averaged 208.5 yards rushing, with Ingram have rushed for 100-plus yards in each.NO. 1 RECEIVERJones’ touchdown drought is over. He has TD catches in three straight games after having none in Atlanta’s first seven. That doesn’t mean he wasn’t productive all along. Jones leads the NFL with 1,158 yards receiving.“He’s been playing so well for us all year and has been so consistent,” Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan said.COMPELLING MATCHUPWhile Brees has not thrown an interception at home this season, the Falcons counter with safety Damontae Kazee, who leads the NFL with five interceptions, a career high. He is the first Atlanta player with as many as five interceptions in a season since 2012, when Thomas DeCoud had six and Asante Samuel had five.

Of course, it was on this day of the draft one year ago when the Cowboys drafted another guard named Connor in Connor Williams Dak Prescott Jersey , and naturally the questions started flowing on what this meant for the former Longhorn, but NFL Network’s Jane Slater quickly cleared that up: Keep in mind that current starting right tackle La’el Collins has a contract that is set to expire soon, and Dallas may prefer the idea of letting him walk and moving Williams to tackle, the position he played in college. McGovern himself has experience starting at all three interior line positions, which means he has the versatility Dallas likes from their linemen. At 6’5” and 308 pounds, McGovern comes ready with an NFL frame, and his 28 bench press reps at the combine showed off his strength. McGovern flashed some high level athleticism as a blocker at Penn State, showing off the agility to have success as a pulling blocker. He also has a junkyard dog kind of mentality that makes him well equipped to handle work in the trenches, as McGovern himself indicated:One of the biggest knocks on McGovern is his hand usage Dallas Cowboys Maliek Collins Jersey , as he doesn’t strike with much consistency and can get beat because of it. McGovern has also been criticized for not holding his stance long enough on plays and giving up leverage. Both of these issues can be addressed through coaching, but McGovern has the physical tools to become a starter in the NFL, at least according to Kyle Crabbs of The Draft Network: The good thing for Dallas is that they don’t have to start McGovern right away. They can afford to sit him for at least a year, and in that time he provides depth at all three interior line positions, potentially putting Xavier Sua-Filo at risk of making the team. The Cowboys said that McGovern was “by far” the best player left on their draft board at pick number 90, and they had a second-round grade on him. Only time will tell if that’s the case, and this pick was certainly surprising, but keep in mind how good this front office has been at drafting offensive linemen in recent years. Hopefully they got it right again with McGovern. Scott Linehan was replaced after his scheme was seen as stale and not taking full advantage of the weapons the Cowboys had on offense. The idea being that Moore will take the Cowboys offensive scheme and perform a refresh. We’ve been trying to track that as well as we can, first by projecting some changes we might see based on what Moore ran at Boise State. Then we checked in on some changes with the offensive line and wide recievers at OTAs. Finally, we looked at the different personnel combinations that were being observed at OTAs. Reading through all of that would be an excellent primer as to what is coming from the Cowboys offense. We’d like to add one more look at Moore, this time from another site. Inside the Pylon does excellent work breaking down football strategy, schemes - basically all things that an amateur coach would want to read. They took on Kellen Moore and put together a must read. They include this quote from Moore to set the stage of what should be coming for the Cowboys offense. That goes to all the things we’ve been hearing about pre-snap movement and different formations and personnel groupings. But Moore also says that isn’t just window-dressing with a bunch of people moving around, it has a purpose besides confusion. The Cowboys under Linehan last year were decidedly on the low end of the spectrum when it came down to pre-snap motion, They ranked 24th in the league, far below the average (source Sports Info Solutions). The Inside the Pylon article notes how Moore’s team’s at Boise State were masters of using pre-snap motion to gain an advantage. They continue on with specific examples and visuals from games to make the point. They show examples of how the defense might shift a safety over to the four-receiver side, leaving a wideout in a one-on-one on the other side. Other times a defense will keep the safety to the weak-side White Ezekiel Elliott Jersey , but the tight end would be unaccounted for over the middle of the field. Another Inside the Pylon talking point is about more play-action for Dak Prescott, something everyone has been calling for. In Prescott’s incredible 2016 season, the Cowboys used play-action the fourth-most in the league. There is plenty of play-action in the Boise State playbook and Prescott should see plenty. Here’s a quick look at Prescott’s stats based on play-action splits. They finish up with another item that should be music to Cowboys fans ears. Using Prescott more in the run game, especially in the red zone. They note that at Boise State, sometimes they would sub Moore off the field in the red zone for a more mobile “quarterback” who was more effective in the run game. They won’t need to substitute with Prescott. Inside the Pylon concludes with this.Do yourself a favor, check out the whole article.

Olivier Vernon is content to be the other guy the Browns got from the Giants in trade this offseason. But even if he was the only one Youth Baker Mayfield Jersey , it would have been a big deal.Lost in all the attention paid to Odell Beckham Jr., the Browns acquired an impact pass-rusher to pair with Myles Garrett in the trade with the Giants this offseason. But Vernon was able to flip the hood up on his sweatshirt and pass through the OTA crowd without nearly as much notice.“Anyways, we signed some defensive guys that can play some football. We really did,” Browns coach Freddie Kitchens said, via Doug Lesmerises of the . “Hopefully, you guys in the fall start talking about them a little bit.”If Vernon plays the way he has in 4-3 defenses in the past Baker Mayfield Jersey Stitched , that conversation should be natural. He still had seven sacks last year in the Giants’ 3-4, but thinks he fits in well here, and will help lift a defense with good young players.“They know what I bring to the table,” Vernon said. “They say you’re going to get what you paid for, so they’re going to get what you traded for. . . .“You feel it from the coaches, you feel it from the front office. [General Manager John] Dorsey Myles Garrett Jersey Stitched , he’s got a plan. I spoke to him a few times, and I just like what I heard from him as far as his vision. It’s been a lot of rough years for the Browns. It can only last so long. All we’ve got to do right now, we’ve got the plan set up, we’ve just got to execute it.”While adding Vernon and Sheldon Richardson and Morgan Burnett won’t be as popular as their offense additions, it should help solidify that side of the ball. Giants General Manager Dave Gettleman’s stunning decision to trade wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. to the Browns comes after saying repeatedly that that wasn’t his plan.In January, Gettleman said David Njoku Jersey Stitched , 鈥淲e didn鈥檛 sign him to trade him.”In February, Gettleman said, 鈥淲e didn鈥檛 sign Odell to trade him. That鈥檚 all I need to say about that.”In March, Gettleman traded Beckham. The decision to sign Beckham to a huge contract, pay him $21.459 million for one season, and then trade him seven months later doesn’t make a lot of sense Orange Chad Thomas Jersey , and Giants fans are eager to hear Gettleman’s explanation.Gettleman’s explanation is likely that he had to say he wasn’t trading Beckham to drive up the trade market. The Steelers made it clear that they were trading Antonio Brown and ended up getting only a third-round pick and a fifth-round pick. The Giants got a first-round pick, a third-round pick and Jabrill Peppers for Beckham. But the question remains why Gettleman wanted to trade Beckham at all. Beckham was by far the best player on the roster Gettleman inherited when he took over the Giants. Draft a franchise quarterback and pair him with Beckham, and the Giants could build a great team for years to come. Instead, Gettleman has done what he said he wouldn’t do, and the Giants are rebuilding from the bottom.

Rob Kinnan-USA TODAY SportsThe defense should consume much of this year’s draft, and GM John Dorsey needs to make sure each pick is one that will help this team contend for the AFC North Division title. Since the Browns do not possess a first-round pick this year, their selection in the second stanza is critical.Expect one of the draft picks in all likelihood at some point to be spent on a DT for added depth and to work towards a starting position. The Browns have already traded DE Emmanuel Ogbah and realize that a good defense will use multiple defensive linemen continually throughout the game to keep fresh legs on the field. Gerald Willis could very well be that player and should be available in Round 2 with pick number 49.A former five-star recruit, he originally signed with Florida, but had issues with several coaches and teammates. As a freshman, he was involved in a fight over a pair of cleats with Gators’ QB Skyler Mornhinweg to which the signalcaller required stitches. He was also suspended twice for undisclosed reasons. In another incident in the game against rival Florida State, QB Jameis Winston of the Seminoles had scrambled and gained minimal yardage and then darted out-of-bounds into the Florida bench. As Winston decelerated he approached two Florida players standing on the sideline, one being Willis. Next, Willis hauls off and shoves and then punches Winston with both forearms right in the facemask. Willis was ejected and his team was assessed a 15-yard personal foul.Florida in due course released him fundamentally, and then he transferred to the University of Miami. Willis’ playing growth was stalled in 2017 when he took the entire season off at Miami with allegations of character issues. Before Drew Brees could blow kisses to the adoring Superdome crowd Youth Andrus Peat Jersey , before he could embrace his wife and children on the sideline, the Saints' 39-year-old quarterback had to shred one of the NFL's top pass defenses with ruthless efficiency. And so he did.Brees passed Peyton Manning to become the NFL's all-time leader in yards passing with a 62-yard touchdown to rookie Tre'Quan Smith on Monday night that sent New Orleans on its way to a lopsided 43-19 victory over the mistake-prone Washington Redskins."It's hard for me to reflect too much right now just because my career's not done. There are still goals to be accomplished. There are still challenges to be met. And so I'm still very focused on that," Brees said. "And yet, when something like this happens, there are so many people who are responsible for that, that are a part of that, that makes me happy. It makes me proud and it makes me extremely grateful — extremely grateful for the opportunity to play this game, to play it as long as I've played it, to have wound up here in New Orleans."It's just been an unbelievable journey."Brees entered the game needing 201 yards to eclipse Peyton Manning's previous mark of 71,940 yards. He had 250 yards and two touchdowns by halftime and finished 26 of 29 for 363 yards and three touchdowns. He has yet to throw an interception this season. He did, however, make his eighth career reception on his own deflected pass, and pushed across the line of scrimmage to add an extra yard to his career total."He throws for 5,000 yards just like he's sleeping at night, and it's crazy to see that," Redskins cornerback Josh Norman said. "He's at the top of them all right now — and he's not done yet."The Saints' Smith, a third-round draft choice last spring, caught two touchdown passes from the 18th-year pro. Brees also hit Smith for a 35-yard score down the right sideline early in the third quarter.Any hope Washington had of coming back was all but snuffed out when Justin Hardee, a special teams regular who was in the game because of Marshon Lattimore's concussion symptoms, snagged Alex Smith's underthrown pass at the Saints' 19-yard line and returned his first career interception to the Washington 4.That set up change-of-pace QB Taysom Hill's 1-yard touchdown run that put the Saints (4-1) up 40-13.Smith completed 23 of 39 passes for 275 yards for the Redskins (2-2). He ran for a short touchdown late in the first half that pulled Washington within 26-13.MAKING MEMORIESWhen Saints began one of their last first-half possessions on their own 38, Brees needed just 35 yards to break the record. On the first play of the drive, Brees launched a pass toward the right sideline to the speedy Smith, who was wide open and easily sprinted away from Nicholson's tackle attempt en route to the end zone."I knew we were within striking distance" of the record, Brees said. "I didn't know it was going to happen on the first play to Tre'Quan. But I don't think it could have happened in any better fashion than it did. To have then that moment with my teammates on the field Andrus Peat Jersey Stitched , the offensive line, it played out even greater than I ever could have imagined."Brees' teammates ran toward their quarterback as he jogged behind the play, and a group of them formed a jumping, celebrating mass of black and gold next to the Saints' fleur-de-lis emblem on the 50-yard line.Brees then removed his helmet, saluted fans and exchanged hugs on the sideline with his wife, Brittany, their four kids and Saints coach Sean Payton. The ball was handed over to Pro Football Hall of Fame officials. With the game well in hand after the two-minute warning, Payton subbed Brees out of the game. As Teddy Bridgwater ran onto the field and Brees trotted to the sideline, Brees got one last ovation before fans began chanting: "Who dat say dey gonna beat dem Saints."INGRAM'S RETURNRunning back Mark Ingram, playing in his first game this season after serving a four-game suspension, scored two touchdowns on 2- and 1-yard runs in the first half.He finished with 53 yards rushing and 20 receiving."It's great to have him back," Payton said, stressing the Ingram's presence reduces the physical toll on fellow running back Alvin Kamara. "That combination — those are two real good running backs."PAINFUL PENALTIESThe Redskins came in allowing fewer than 190 yards passing per game and spoke of doing what they could to prevent Brees from making history. Instead, they helped Brees pile up first-half yards with third-down penalties that extended two touchdown drives.Norman's defensive holding penalty during Brees' incomplete pass sustained the Saints' first scoring drive, capped by Ingram's short touchdown run.In the second quarter, Montae Nicholson's unnecessary roughness penalty for leveling Ingram on Ryan Kerrigan's third-down sack extended a drive that ended with Brees' short TD pass to tight end Josh Hill.INJURIESRedskins: Chris Thompson took a heavy hit from Saints linebacker Craig Robertson and received treatment on the field before getting up and walking to the sideline holding his helmet. Redskins coach Jay Gruden said he had a rib injury. Gruden also said running back Adrian Peterson has a shoulder strain and will have an MRI. Receiver Paul Richardson Jr. stained his knee and tight end Vernon Davis had a hamstring injury.Saints: In addition to Lattimore, reserve defensive lineman Taylor Stallworth limped off the field, favoring his right leg.UP NEXTRedskins: Host Carolina on Sunday.Saints: Enter their bye week before returning to action at Baltimore on Oct. 21. METAIRIE, La. (AP) — Saints third-string quarterback Taysom Hill never envisioned launching his body across the path of a punted ball when he arrived in New Orleans last season to serve as an understudy to record-setting passer Drew Brees.Yet his momentum-changing blocked punt in last week’s comeback victory at Tampa Bay became just his latest highlight that has nothing to do with dropping back from the line of scrimmage and throwing a football. It has become increasingly apparent this season that the 6-foot-2, 220-pound Hill has the potential to become the NFL’s ultimate utility player. And if doing so improves the Saints’ Super Bowl odds, Hill’s game.“Standing on the sideline with a hat on and a clip board and a sweat shirt is not as fun as doing what I’m doing,” Hill said. The 28-year-old Hill’s embrace of his unconventional role comes with risk, particularly in light of his background. He had major injuries in four of his five seasons at BYU: a knee injury, a bone fracture in his leg Youth P.J. Williams Jersey , a foot fracture and a hyper-extended elbow. But at this point, Hill doesn’t see himself playing special teams throughout his career.“I thought that I would come in and develop as a quarterback and have the opportunity to compete to play at quarterback,” Hill said. “That’s what I’m still hopeful for.”In the meantime, Hill has made a value judgment. He loves playing, so he’s willing to make his skill set available in ways he might not have previously considered.“I’m grateful that the coaches here had a vision for me and then created opportunities,” Hill said. “That’s unique and I’m grateful for the coaching staff here that had a vision, but then they took a chance, right? Because if things don’t go well, they look silly.”Instead, Hill has already made enough plays on special teams that Saints coach Sean Payton figures Hill, if he wanted to, could make a sustained NFL career out of doing just that, much like Steve Tasker did with Buffalo or Fred McAfee did in New Orleans.“Yet, the difference is, I think he can be a quarterback. I think that’s the plan,” Payton said. “The plus is he has that athleticism, size, and speed. He can do a lot of things.“He has very good savvy,” Payton continued. “He’s catching. He’s rushing. He’s tackling. He’s running. He’s throwing. I mean, he’s just a good football player.”Hill has five special teams tackles this season. He’s returned a kickoff for 47 yards and helped convert two fake punts into first downs as an upback, one running and one throwing. He has even lined up at tight end.At times, Payton inserts Hill at quarterback in place of Brees for read-option runs, one of which went for a 1-yard touchdown. Hill also completed a 44-yard pass to Michael Thomas at Minnesota.Hill said that if he does get his shot to play quarterback more regularly, he wants to be more of a traditional passer P.J. Williams Jersey Stitched , albeit one who can run when prudent.“I’d much rather throw for a touchdown than run for one,” Hill said. “But I think there are elements of my game that make it difficult on a defense and I think it would be dumb not to take advantage of that.”In high school in Idaho, Hill was a standout football player and basketball player. On the court, his size, strength and jumping ability — he can dunk — led coaches to play him at power forward. He was a strong rebounder, and with his background as a quarterback, had little trouble passing out of double-teams.He had small college basketball offers but initially committed to play football at Stanford before deciding that BYU would suit him better after he completed a Mormon mission. He began his NFL career as an undrafted free agent with Green Bay last season. When he was waived at the end of training camp, Payton signed Hill to New Orleans’ active roster. Late last season, the Saints dabbled with putting Hill on special teams to make use of his athleticism, and he quickly started being the first down the field and making tackles.“He’s so good at it you’re not going to have him just sitting there holding the clipboard,” Saints quarterbacks coach Joe Lombardi said. “He’s got to go play.”Running back Alvin Kamara said Hill has earned respect across the Saints’ locker room.“He does it all. He’s a tough player,” Kamara said. “A lot of things he does, that’s not things that one person does. You usually get a couple of people to do all the things he does.”In New Orleans, Hill has captured the imagination of many fans. The Superdome crowd rumbles with anticipation when he takes the field.“Obviously, I’m blessed athletically to create opportunities like this, but I think the moral of my story that can relate to anyone is you can overcome a lot in life if you’re willing to spend the time, energy and effort,” Hill began. And then there’s the part about being adventurous enough to seize unanticipated opportunities.“That comes from doing something you really love, right? And I love football,” Hill said. “I love competing and that’s why it was an easy answer for me when they asked me to do different things. So if you’re doing something you love, you might experience setbacks, but overall you’re going to be willing to work at whatever it is or adjust on the fly to whatever situation comes up.”

The Cowboys seemingly have two needs along the line with David Irving not likely to be re-signed and Randy Gregory indefinitely suspended. It’s not surprising Dallas Cowboys Tony Pollard Jersey , then, that the team took the time to meet up with Texas defensive lineman Charles Omenihu at the combine:Omenihu is a talented player. The biggest question mark about him, though, is where he fits in a defense. Prior to the combine, he was thought to weigh in the low 270’s, which gave some the idea that he’d fit best as a defensive end in a 4-3 scheme despite playing primarily defensive tackle in college. But at the combine, he had bulked up to 280 pounds, and when comparing his results against other defensive tackles Omenihu stood out aside from his weight. As Mosher points out, Omenihu can add more weight to his frame to better compete on the inside. Where he fits on a defense is still somewhat up in the air - it’ll be very interesting to see him at his Pro Day on March 27 - but the fact remains that he is a very talented prospect that could help out Dallas immediately. Omenihu has great length, as evidenced by his 36” long arms, and he uses them well Cheap Tony Pollard Youth Jersey , getting full extension with regularity. He combines this with a really explosive get off, although sometimes there are lapses where he doesn’t time the snap well enough. Still, when he does he is off the line of scrimmage in a flash and reaching out his arms to punch the blockers square in the chest. Omenihu’s hand usage is also ideal, as he does a good job of placing them when engaging with blockers and knows how to disengage. He does a good job of figuring out what the protections are and reacting to them with his attack, and Omenihu also holds up well in run defense, largely due to his ability to shed blocks and then utilize his length to wrap up ballcarriers. While he primarily played as the 3-technique defensive tackle, the Longhorns also asked Omenihu to line up as a defensive end in Wide 9 formations, and this is where Omenihu really flashed his pass rushing skills. He has a deep repertoire of moves that he uses to dispatch blockers, and he does a really good job of bending around the corner when coming off the edge. One of the reasons that weight is a concern for Omenihu is due to his strength, especially in assessing his ability to rush the passer up the middle. He didn’t participate in the bench press at the combine, so that question is still a bit murky. However Dallas Cowboys Jalen Jelks Jersey , Omenihu certainly has the ability to rush off the edge in certain 4-3 sets. If not for the questions about his size and positional fit, Omenihu might even be rated a fringe first-rounder. And he still might be, especially after a good combine performance. He seems to be a more athletic Tyrone Crawford with his versatility around the defensive line, and given the Cowboys’ needs right now, that might be a good thing. The only question Dallas has to ask about Omenihu is if he’ll still be on the board at 58. They clearly have interest in him, evidenced by their two meetings since the Senior Bowl, but his stock might be out of their range. The Cowboys didn’t have a first-round choice, having traded it to the Raiders as part of the deal for Amari Cooper. They will make their first selection at No. 58 tonight. The Cowboys don’t hide their interest. Only once since 2005 have the Cowboys drafted a player with their first choice who didn’t visit team headquarters. That was an unexpected trade up for Morris Claiborne in 2012. Safeties Taylor Rapp (pictured), Juan Thornhill and Chauncey Gardner-Johnson were among Dallas’ 30 national visitors, as were pass rusher Jaylon Ferguson, running back Damien Harris Womens Jalen Jelks 2019 Jersey , receiver Deebo Samuel and offensive tackle Greg Little. It is likely the Cowboys draft a player who was among their pre-draft visitors.“I think there’s a pretty good chance that could happen,” Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones said on 105.3 The Fan, via Clarence Hill of the . “There’s a handful of guys we like that have a chance to be there.”It seems a good bet the Cowboys will draft a safety, especially if Rapp, who played at Washington, and/or Thornhill, who played at Virginia, are there when Dallas selects. It is the most pressing need for the Cowboys, and, after the first round, appears to be falling their way with most top prospects at the position still undrafted. Dallas did not get involved in the sweepstakes for free agent safety Earl Thomas Dallas Cowboys Jalen Jelks Jersey , and though it signed veteran George Iloka, the team would like a strong safety to start opposite Xavier Woods. Woods, a sixth-round pick in 2017, has become “even better than we thought he’d be,” Jones said.“In a perfect world probably a strong safety is the best fit [to pair with Woods],” Jones said.

Kelly has been nursing his neck injury since getting hurt against the Giants in Week 16, while Geathers was hurt in the Colts’ game against the Dallas Cowboys in Week 15.Four Colts — wide receivers Ryan Grant (toe) and T.Y. Hilton (ankle), defensive lineman Tyquan Lewis (knee) and tight end Eric Ebron (rest) — missed Wednesday’s practice. Lewis and Grant were injured in the Colts’ regular-season finale against the Titans, and Hilton has been missing mid-week practices for some time despite playing on Sundays.Linebacker Anthony Walker (shoulder) and running back Jordan Wilkins (knee/ankle) were listed on the injury report despite being full participants on Wednesday. Defensive lineman Jabaal Sheard (knee) and safety Malik Hooker (hip) were both limited for the second day in a row.A number of wide receivers joined Hilton and Grant on the injury report, as Zach Pascal (knee), Daurice Fountain (ankle) and Dontrelle Inman (shoulder/finger) were all limited participants on Wednesday. The NFL Draft kicks off Thursday night, which means the Indianapolis Colts will soon be on the clock, and the league’s version of "Christmas Morning" is nearly upon us. Armed with the 26th, 34th,..."5. Rock Ya-Sin, CB, Temple The 6’0”, 190 pound senior cornerback had 47 tackles Denzelle Good Jersey Stitched , 2 tackles for loss, 12 passes defensed, and 2 interceptions in 12 games for the Temple Owls—earning First-Team All-AAC honors. Not to mention, he has an epic football name. Ya-Sin ran a 4.51 forty time at the NFL Combine to go along with an impressive 39.5 inch vertical. He’s still a bit raw at the position, but he has the sculpted size, athleticism, and length (32” arms) to eventually become an impact starting press cornerback. It also helps that he plays with nice physicality in coverage and is a willing defender in run support—demonstrating his competitiveness at cornerback. That being said, his technique and footwork could use some refinement, and he doesn’t have great long speed—making him potentially scheme dependent. Having already selected another Owls’ cornerback, Nate Hairston, could Ballard go back to the nest one more time—only this time for a defensive back with more upside? Jason Getz-USA TODAY Sports4. Deandre Baker, CB, GeorgiaAt 5’11, 193 pounds, the senior cornerback recorded 40 tackles, 2 tackles for loss, a forced fumble, 9 passes defensed Youth Jack Doyle Jersey , and 2 interceptions in 12 games for the Bulldogs. Baker earned AP First-Team All-American and 1st-Team All-SEC honors, and he also was the recipient of the Jim Thorpe Award—which is awarded annually to the top defensive back in college football. He ran a 4.52 forty time at the NFL Combine. Baker is highly regarded for his press coverage, as well as his competitiveness, toughness, and consistency. He shows impressive ball skills and good anticipation on routes. However, given his lack of size and 2nd gear of speed, he might be best suited as a zone cornerback at the next level—which might be music to Matt Eberflus’ ears. He’ll have to get stronger at the pro ranks, but having someone like Malik Hooker backing him up could help his long-term success too. Photo by Jonathan Daniel/Getty Images3. Julian Love, CB, Notre DameThe 5’11”, 193 pound junior cornerback for the Fighting Irish had 63 tackles, 3 tackles for loss, a forced fumble, 3 fumble recoveries (1 for a touchdown), 16 passes defensed, and an interception in 13 games—earning AP First-Team All-American honors. He ran a 4.54 forty time at the NFL combine with a vertical jump of 36.0 inches. Love is exceptional as a coverage corner, possessing excellent instincts, ball skills Jack Doyle Jersey Stitched , and a high football I.Q. He is technically sound in coverage and has great anticipation on routes, as indicated by his 16 passes defensed in 2018. That being said, like Baker, he lacks great deep speed and might be best suited as a zone cornerback with safety help over the top. He also will need to get stronger and improve his overall physicality at the next level.Ballard ‘struck gold’ with Love’s former teammate Quenton Nelson in last year’s draft, for an ideal zone cornerback fit in Matt Eberflus’ scheme, could he do it again? John David Mercer-USA TODAY Sports2. Greedy Williams, CB, LSUAt 6’2”, 185 pounds, Williams has the prototypical size that general managers covet at cornerback, as well as the production with 33 tackles, 9 passes defensed, and 2 interceptions in 11 games. Because of his exceptional play, he earned AP 2nd-Team All-American and 1st-Team All-SEC honors as a sophomore.Williams ran a blistering fast 4.37 forty time at the NFL Combine. The former Tigers cornerback uses excellent length to both slow down wide receivers at the line of scrimmage and disrupt receptions at the point of attack. In addition to his excellent speed, he looks fluid covering routes and shows impressive agility in his change-of-direction ability. However, where he can get into problems, is that bigger, more physical wide receivers can beat his jam quickly Youth Adam Vinatieri Jersey , and he can struggle in coverage when playing from behind on routes. His help in run support and overall toughness could improve as well. Like the Colts very own Pierre Desir, Williams has the length and athleticism that have proven to work well in Eberflus’ system. It’s just a matter of whether he can play tough enough in run support for a defensive scheme that requires its cornerbacks to tackle. Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports1. Byron Murphy, CB, WashingtonAt 5’11”, 190 pounds, the Huskies sophomore standout recorded 58 tackles, 4.0 tackles for loss, a forced fumble, 13 passes defensed, and four interceptions (1 for a touchdown) in 14 games—earning AP 2nd-Team All-American and 1st-Team All-Pac 12 honors respectively. During the NFL Combine, Murphy ran a 4.55 forty time and had a vertical jump of 36.5 inches.Murphy is a very instinctive cornerback with a high football IQ, who has excellent ball skills. He’s willing to mix it up in run support and close down hard on a receiver in space—showing excellent toughness and fight. While he’s not a great athlete and lacks deep speed, he makes up for it with the other exceptional areas of his overall game. He seems like an ideal fit in Matt Eberflus’ ‘Cover 2’ defensive scheme with his instinctive and ball-hawking play (yet a need to have some safety help behind him). However, like Williams before him, it’s a fair question of whether cornerback is that great of a need in Round 1, where he’ll likely be selected.

Team executive shoots down the rumor Myles Garrett Jersey Stitched , but actual schedule release should only be days away." />Skip to main contentclockmenumore-arrownoyesDawgs EDTThe Cleveland Browns are and up-and-coming team with an attractive schedule for the 2019 season, making them an ideal selection for a number of primetime games. Per NFL rules, teams can only be scheduled for five primetime games, but a maximum of three teams can be flexed into a sixth appearance on Sunday Night Football. With a schedule that includes division games against the Pittsburgh Steelers and Baltimore Ravens, along with the New England Patriots, Los Angeles Rams and Seattle Seahawks, it seems likely the Browns will be featured at least three to four times in primetime. But which games will be moved from the traditional 1 p.m. kickoff is still unknown, although a schedule posing as legitimate was leaked on Twitter Friday afternoon:That schedule features the Browns in primetime games Week 1 on Monday night at the New York Jets, Week 2 on Sunday night at home to the Ravens, Week 8 on Sunday night at the Patriots, Week 10 on Monday night at home to the Steelers, and Thanksgiving night at the Arizona Cardinals. So the Browns would be scheduled for the maximum of five primetime games, which seems a bit overly optimistic. Another tip off that this schedule may not be legit is the idea that the NFL would have the Cardinals host a game on Thanksgiving night. Sure enough David Njoku Jersey Stitched , late Friday night word came down from Peter John-Baptiste, the Browns senior vice president of communications, that the schedule is indeed fake:That really should not come as a surprise as the NFL keeps these type of things on lockdown. Last year, the league announced the schedule April 19, which was a Thursday night the week before the NFL Draft. There is no reason to believe they will do anything differently this year, so expect to finally discover just when the Browns are in primetime come next Thursday. BEREA, Ohio (AP) — The Browns have endured all types of losses over the past few seasons. They’ve been painful, lopsided, comical, heartbreaking, head-scratching and last-second.Jarvis Landry described Sunday’s defeat differently.“An eye-opener,” the receiver said. After being so competitive through their first five games, Cleveland was simply overmatched by the Los Angeles Chargers Orange Chad Thomas Jersey , who rushed for 246 yards, contained and confused rookie quarterback Baker Mayfield and wrecked a picture-perfect day near Lake Erie for Browns fans hoping to see their team win two straight home games for the first time in four years.Instead, they watched the Browns (2-3-1) get pounded.“They got after us,” said Landry, adding he left FirstEnergy Stadium without speaking to reporters following the game because he was frustrated. “Truthfully, it really wasn’t nothing to be said. I think it was evident. They came in, and they were the better team.”Better by far.The Chargers took it to the Browns, who were coming off an emotional overtime win against Baltimore, a victory that altered the national narrative about Cleveland’s season. But just when the Browns turned trendy, they got knocked back.“I hate to say that we needed it, but it’s something that we needed to happen to us,” said Landry, who then backtracked Chad Thomas Jersey 2019 , saying he meant the Browns got tested and failed.“I didn’t really mean like we NEEDED it,” he said with emphasis. “Obviously, I want to win, that’s what I really meant.”What the Browns do need is help, especially to replenish a wide receivers group that has been drained by departures and injuries. On Sunday, veteran receiver Rod Streater suffered a neck fracture while covering a punt in the first quarter and is done for the season. Streater was set to play more while Rashard Higgins (knee) and Derrick Willies (collarbone) recover from injuries. Willies underwent surgery on Monday to fix his broken collarbone and isn’t expected back until late in the season. In the meantime, the Browns are severely lacking in experience with Landry playing alongside rookies Antonio Callaway and Damion Ratley, both of whom failed to make TD catches on well-thrown balls by Mayfield on Sunday. The Browns signed free agent Breshad Perriman, a former first-round pick with Baltimore, on Saturday and the team will try to get him up to speed in time for this week’s game at Tampa Bay.Coach Hue Jackson said general manager John Dorsey will continue to look outside the team for help, but that it may have to come from within.“We are not going to make excuses,” he said. “We have to coach well. We have to put them into the best situations.“We have to help everybody on this team offensively, defensively and on special teams to be as good as we can because nobody else cares about what is going on in Cleveland as far as what players are playing Cleveland Browns Damarious Randall Jersey , our injuries or anything like that.“It does not matter. We will find a way.”One way would be to get Mayfield and Landry in sync.Landry, who has caught more passes in his first five seasons than any player in NFL history, had just two for 11 yards against the Chargers. Mayfield targeted Landry nine times, but the pair is still learning to play together — and the Browns don’t have the luxury of time.Landry admitted being frustrated by his lack of production, but said Cleveland’s receivers need to do more for Mayfield.“We have to do a better job of helping him out in situations and making one-on-one contested catches,” he said.“Or when he gets out of the pocket and he’s throwing on the run, we have to find ways to get ourselves free from DBs and the coverage to be able to make plays.”Cleveland’s receiving group looks different than earlier this season, weakened by Josh Gordon’s trade to New England. Landry has been double-teamed as defenses focus on stopping him. It’s time for the Browns’ youngsters to grow up.“We trust these guys,” Landry said of Callaway and Ratley, who had six catches for 82 yards. “We count on them each week to make plays for us and we give them opportunities in clutch moments, and it’s really not about young guys any more. That part is over and everybody has to play at a veteran level if we want to go to where we’re headed to.”NOTES: Pro Bowl LB Joe Schobert could miss several games with a hamstring injury suffered Sunday. Jackson said Christian Kirksey could move from outside into Schobert’s inside spot. … Jackson said Mayfield is fine after tweaking an ankle when he slipped on the sideline. … C JC Tretter could miss some practice time after hurting his left ankle on Sunday. … Jackson said rookie RB Nick Chubb needs more carries. He gained 25 yards on three attempts Sunday. “We need to get more. There is nothing else to say,” Jackson said.

The Colts are making more roster moves Youth Ryan Kelly Jersey , and again it seems like injuries might be the driving factor. They have signed veteran safety Mike Mitchell to the roster and have yet again waived cornerback Lenzy Pipkins.Mitchell is 6’1”, 221lbs, and has played in 137 NFL games. At 31 years old, he will be one of the oldest players on the roster and comes with both significant playing experience, and a reputation among football fans as being a “dirty” player. He will provide a veteran presence in the back of the Colts defense and is somewhat atypical of the kind of player Chris Ballard has generally brought in. Pipkins finds himself looking for work yet again Ryan Kelly Jersey Stitched , as the Colts have treated him much like a yo-yo this season. Arriving in Indianapolis via the trade with Green Bay which sent Antonio Morrison to them, Pipkins has been back and forth from the practice squad and active roster, getting playing time on Thursday against New England in which he had 9 tackles. It is a safe bet that if he clears waivers, he will find his way back to the Colts’ practice squad. The concerning thing about this move is what it says about the Colts’ safety position. Both Clayton Geathers and Matthias Farley left the game Thursday with injuries, Geathers specifically with a concussion and neck injury. That has been the predominate issue for Geathers with staying healthy and it is certainly no small thing to see that he is dealing with it again. Neck injuries are a big deal Youth T.J. Green Jersey , and the style that Geathers plays makes it inevitable that this will be a recurring problem. We have not yet received news that says definitively that this is the reason for this particular move, but with two safeties out and a starter seemingly having re-aggravated a preexisting injury, it seems likely. Just at a glance, we see the top NFL offense during the regular season that will be butting heads with the Colts’ top-10 defense, and an explosive Colts offense that will be trying to dominate what has been a largely very disappointing Chiefs defense.Obviously, one of the largest advantages for the Chiefs comes with their home crowd and atmosphere. The Colts offense will literally have a 12th man to deal with despite the Chiefs’ defensive shortcomings which somewhat levels out that specific battle. On the other hand, the Colts’ defense may have the speed and run defense to offer a punch to the Chiefs’ offense, but the Colts naturally have holes in their coverages that could offer a challenge in keeping Travis Kelce from making a mess of Indy’s night.Matt and Pete also discuss what the Chiefs should be worried about outside of the combination of Andrew Luck and Frank Reich, how to keep Patrick Mahomes contained without allowing him create outside of the pocket, where the Colts can attack the Chiefs’ defense and much more. Please subscribe Womens Adam Vinatieri 2019 Jersey , rate and review the channel anywhere you listen to podcasts.Follow our hosts on Twitter: @MDanelySB | @HolderStephen | @chrisblystoneStampede Blue Podcast Links:Apple Podcasts | Stitcher | Art 19 | SB Colts Cast YT Channel | Google | Spotify This time, it's Kirk Cousins vs. Carson Wentz. The quarterbacks and the stakes will be different when the Philadelphia Eagles (2-2) host the Minnesota Vikings (1-2-1) in a rematch of the NFC championship game Sunday.Nick Foles led the Eagles to a 38-7 win over Case Keenum and the Vikings last January. The Super Bowl MVP went back to the bench after Wentz returned from knee surgery in Week 3. Keenum went to Denver because the Vikings gave Cousins a fully guaranteed $84 million contract to be the face of their franchise.Neither team is playing at a championship level right now and both are desperate for a win."They're a great team, record aside," Wentz said. "We know we'll get their best, obviously with the way it ended last year."Cousins had been successful against the Eagles in seven starts for Washington. He had thrown for 2,122 yards with 16 touchdowns and five interceptions while going 4-3 in those games."It's a great environment, a great place to play an NFL football game on a Sunday afternoon. Great crowd," Cousins said. "I've had my fair share of battles there. Some have come out victorious, some have come out as the loser. It will be a great test for us."Some things to watch between the Vikings and Eagles:FLIP'S FAMILIARITYVikings offensive coordinator John DeFilippo was Philadelphia's quarterbacks coach the past two seasons. He's quite familiar with Wentz and coach Doug Pederson's system. The Eagles already beat former offensive coordinator Frank Reich and the Colts in Week 3."The same as going against Frank, some of the terminology Womens Anthony Castonzo 2019 Jersey , some of the calls, maybe hand signals, whatever it may be that he knows," Pederson said. "Listen, he's a smart guy, but he's also preparing his team to get ready to play. I think that's where his focus is right now this week."We're seeing some of the same things from their offense that we do, and so it's good for our defense to see. We're aware of it. It's a home game, so we can cut down on a lot of the signals, a lot of the verbiage, things like that at the line Indianapolis Colts Gerri Green Jersey , and just try to go play."GETTING DEFENSIVEBoth teams are struggling on defense. The Vikings had the No. 1 defense a year ago. They're 21st this season. The Eagles were fourth last year. Now they're 10th and the secondary has been shredded by Ryan Fitzpatrick and Marcus Mariota in two road losses. The Vikings are missing three-time Pro Bowl defensive end Everson Griffen. The Eagles lost safety Rodney McLeod.NO BALANCEThe Vikings are last in the NFL in rushing and Dalvin Cook leads the team with only 98 yards while averaging just 2.7 per carry. The Eagles are first in run defense but poor against the pass. So expect Cousins to throw a ton. Or not."It's important for us to have balance," Vikings coach Mike Zimmer said. "It keeps the defensive line from pinning their ears back all the time. I think it helps the football team overall. We just have to do a better job."NO BALANCE IIThe Eagles had success running the ball in an overtime loss at Tennessee, gaining 109 yards on 20 carries from backs Jay Ajayi and Wendell Smallwood. But Pederson called 74 percent pass plays."We try to be as balanced as we can be and we're going to play the game that we think needs to be played, and some of it is dictated during the course of the game," offensive coordinator Mike Groh said. "Coach is as patient a play caller as there is in the running game in this league and really doesn't deviate from it. ... A run call is never very far from the tip of his finger. He's always thinking about it and conversing with the staff during the course of the game."DYNAMIC DUOVikings receivers Adam Thielen and Stefon Diggs have been unstoppable. Diggs leads the team with three touchdowns and is averaging 11.5 yards per reception. Thielen has 40 catches and is the only player in the league with 100 yards receiving in every game this season. They're going against a pair of cornerbacks, Jalen Mills and Ronald Darby, who've struggled.

Scouting staff going through a shake up now that the draft is over."WhiteFanposts Fanshots Sections Dallas Cowboys NewsDallas Cowboys NewsTom Ciskowski Taco Charlton Jersey White , long-time Cowboys employee in various scouting roles, is retiringNew,16commentsScouting staff going through a shake up now that the draft is over.CDTShareTweetShareShareTom Ciskowski, long-time Cowboys employee in various scouting roles, is retiringKirby Lee-USA TODAY SportsNow that the 2019 NFL draft is over, teams usually make changes to their scouting staff if needed. There have already been a few moves around the league Womens Amari Cooper Jersey , including one that is reportedly going to happen involving Cowboys scout Jim Abrams. It looks like another move is on the way as reported in this tweet.Ciskowski was once the man in charge of the Cowboys drafts. That changed when the Cowboys made some moves that included elevating Will McClay who has excelled in the job. Here’s how the Star-Telegram explained it in 2014.Ciskowski had been with the Cowboys since 1993 working his way up the scouting ladder. When Jeff Ireland left in 2008, Ciskowski took over the draft for the Cowboys. Along the way he’s made some quality picks, including being the man credited with finding Larry Allen for the Cowboys and advocating for him right through the draft. But he was also part of the disastrous 2009 draft that will always be remembered unfavorably by Cowboys fans. There was also the controversial 2013 draft where there appeared to be a heated discussion in the war room, in which Ciskowski and Stephen Jones were involved. Murray is set to make approximately $3.6 million per year on average, which seemed like a steal at the time. Then Mark Ingram signed with the Baltimore Ravens.Ingram signs with Baltimore on a three-year deal at a $5 million per year average, after initial reports indicated Ingram was seeking $8 million per year. The Cowboys don’t have a first-round pick in this year’s draft as a result of the trade for wide receiver Amari Cooper and executive vice president Stephen Jones addressed the possibility of the team making a move to change that during a Tuesday radio interview.Dallas is currently set to make their first pick at No. 58 overall and Jones called it “real hard to think” that the Cowboys would be making any move that significantly changes that outlook.“I don’t think so White Daryl Johnston Jersey ,” Jones said on 105.3 The Fan, via the . “It took an act of Congress to give up a first-round pick. We would certainly do the same thing over again in terms of what it did for us with Amari Cooper and what’s it going to do for our future.”With six picks in this year’s draft Dallas Cowboys Deonte Thompson Jersey , any attempt to make a big jump up the board would likely require the Cowboys to dip into future stockpiles of selections and Jones’ comments suggest that’s not going to happen. Plenty of people have been critical of the Cowboys wide receivers this season, but Cole Beasley has been adamant that they are not the problem that others make them out to be.Given that feeling, one might imagine that Beasley would frown on the team’s decision to trade a first-round pick to the Raiders for Amari Cooper. Beasley is welcoming his new teammate with open arms Womens Deonte Thompson 2019 Jersey , however.Beasley said he’s “glad we did something to add to us” and thinks that Cooper will make the offense more dangerous when it returns to the field in Week Nine. General manager seemed nonchalant when discussing what Kitchens accomplished with the Browns offense this season."WhiteFanposts Fanshots Sections Daily Dawg ChowRufio’s PlaybookHas John Dorsey cooled on Freddie Kitchens?New Youth Britton Colquitt Jersey ,64commentsGeneral manager seemed nonchalant when discussing what Kitchens accomplished with the Browns offense this season.ESTShareTweetShareShareHas John Dorsey cooled on Freddie Kitchens?General manager John Dorsey has not come across as someone driven by emotions or public opinion during his little more than a year in charge of the Cleveland Browns.Dorsey clearly has a plan for how he wants to push the Browns to the next level. Sometimes he acts quickly — cutting wide receiver Kenny Britt shortly after taking over the general manager’s job, for example. Other times he lets the situation play out — for example, giving owner Jimmy Haslam time to come to the realization that he was employing the worst head coach in NFL history. Knowing that, we were not expecting Dorsey to show up at his press conference on Monday wearing a bright orange Dawg Pound hoodie and singing the praises of offensive coordinator Freddie Kitchens. But, even for someone who keeps his information on lockdown, Dorsey came off as pretty neutral about the work that Kitchens did over the second half of the season. While Dorsey said the Browns will give Kitchens an opportunity to interview for the vacant head coaching position, he also said it will happen “one day Britton Colquitt Jersey Stitched ,” which could be interpreted as Dorsey believing he has more important items on his daily calendar. There is also one comment from Dorsey that really stood out when he was asked about Kitchens’ achievements this season, according to clevelandbrowns.com:Kitchens has “kind of moved the bar on the offensive side of the ball?” That is a bit of an understatement when you consider that:During the first half of the season, the offense struggled to get in gear as quarterback Baker Mayfield had eight touchdown passes, six interceptions, completed just 58.3 percent of his passes and posted a quarterback rating of 78.9. (Per cleveland.com)During the second half of the season, Mayfield had 19 touchdown passes, eight interceptions Youth Joel Bitonio Jersey , completed 68.4 percent of his passes and posted a quarterback rating of 106.2. (Per cleveland.com)And, highlighting Dorsey’s comment about getting the ball out quicker, Mayfield was sacked just five times in the final eight games, compared to 20 in the first half of the season. (Per cleveland.com)Some of that can be attributed to Mayfield’s growth as a quarterback during his rookie season, but Kitchens certainly played a part in it as well. Even without the numbers to back it up, it was easy for Browns fans to see the difference in the offense once Kitchens took over. This could be all much ado about nothing since Dorsey and the Browns are still working through the evaluation process and setting up interviews. But it could also be Dorsey’s way of letting the fans know that they may not want to get to attached to everyone’s favorite offensive coordinator. Either way, we should all know for sure sometime in the next few weeks. CLEVELAND (AP) — The Browns‘ draft class of 2016 is rapidly shrinking. As he continues to revamp Cleveland’s roster Joel Bitonio Jersey Stitched , general manager John Dorsey got rid of three former draft picks on Monday by trading defensive end Emmanuel Ogbah to the Kansas City Chiefs and releasing safety Derrick Kindred and wide receiver Ricardo Louis.Ogbah did not report for the start of the Browns’ offseason program Monday, a sign that a trade was being discussed. The 25-year-old was picked with the No. 32 pick three years ago by Cleveland. He had 12½ sacks in 40 games but became expendable when the Browns acquired edge rusher Olivier Vernon from New York in the deal for Odell Beckham Jr.On the day they introduced Beckham at a packed news conference, the Browns also re-signed wide receiver Rashard Higgins (restricted free agent) defensive back Juston Burris (free agent), defensive tackle Trevon Coley (exclusive rights free agent) and Jermaine Whitehead (exclusive rights free agent).Kindred and Louis were both selected in 2016 by Cleveland’s previous front office, which drafted 14 players that year. Only three remain.Dorsey has spent the past year and more fixing a roster that produced just one win over two seasons. But the Browns went 7-8-1 last season and expectations are soaring following the team’s acquisition of Beckham and other offseason moves.A fourth-round pick, Kindred had been expected to start after the Browns traded Jabrill Peppers to the Giants as part of the Beckham deal. Needing a safety, Dorsey went out and got Murray Youth Christian Kirksey Jersey , whom he picked while he was the Chiefs GM in 2016. Murray became expendable when the Chiefs signed free agent safety Tyrann Mathieu.Murray started nine games and appeared in 15 last season, making 43 tackles and an interception. The Browns were pleased with Higgins’ development last season and feel he gives them depth at a key position. He had 39 catches for 572 yards and four touchdowns in 2018.Coley has been a solid contributor over the past two seasons, starting 29 games.Burris appeared in four games for Cleveland last season after being signed off the New York Jets’ practice squad. Whitehead played on special teams in his seven games with Cleveland in 2018.

According to league rules, a violation like this is enough to make a player ineligible to participate in Combine activities. This is a blow to Ferguson’s draft stock, not so much as in that it may drop, but more in the fact that he’s running out of chances to prove he is a first round caliber talent. As the FBS all-time sack leader, the 6-foot-5 defensive end was beginning to cause some waves around the league and his name was starting to pick up traction. However Chester Rogers Jersey 2019 , his small-school designation had held him back a bit to this point. His athletic abilities would certainly have allowed him to excel at the Combine, and since he wasn’t able to make much noise in the Senior Bowl against better competition, Indy seemed like the last place for him to make a major push to get into the first round.Instead, he will find himself watching the combine from home. Apparently, most teams already seem to know about the incident, but the NFL found out about it during routine background checks made in preparation for the Combine. Overall, I don’t think this will greatly impact Ferguson’s stock as very little came out of the allegations and he was relatively young when they occurred. He just won’t be able to display his talents and Combine interviews are a great place to explain incidents like these. The Cowboys offensive coaching staff still hasn't been officially announced for the 2019 season. The contours of what the group will look like are known Youth Chris Jones Jersey , but the exact responsibility each coach will have has yet to be determined. At least to the outside world. Internally, the Cowboys brain-trust likely has a pretty good idea of what is going to happen. In general, it’s thought that Kellen Moore will take over as the offensive coordinator, Jon Kitna will take over Moore’s old job as quarterbacks coach, and tight ends coach Doug Nussmeier will be involved in some way with the offensive game-planning. Earlier this week Chris Jones Jersey Stitched , there were reports that Jason Garrett was “in line” to take back the play-calling duties that he once held for the Cowboys. Now, there is a new report that says Garrett will not be involved in that aspect. If so, and the coaching staff is as expected, then Kellen Moore would be the likely choice for that responsibility. If this turns out to be the case, the Cowboys are going all-in on a young Kellen Moore. They are surrounding him with guys who have had many years either coaching or playing ball in the NFL Youth Jeff Heath Jersey , and that is valuable. But if they are indeed turning the play-calling over to Moore, then on gameday he’ll be on his own for the most part. It’s hard to have a committee making choices on play calls during those three hours of game play.Cowboys fans have definitely been split about Moore, first as the backup quarterback, then as the quarterback coach, and now as the potential offensive coordinator. If the Cowboys are handing him the job with play-calling duties Jeff Heath Jersey Stitched , then they have a massive amount of faith in his abilities. Let’s hope he proves them right. Eric Berry concluded his visit in Dallas without a deal being reached."Dallas Cowboys fans got excited on Monday when word broke that safety Eric Berry would be visiting the team on Tuesday. With a need at safety this seemed like a move that would make a lot of sense for the Cowboys. As of Tuesday afternoon, it appears as if there is nothing firm between Dallas and Berry, at least for now. According to Terez Paylor, Berry is off to visit some more teams. This is hardly cause for concern. The Cowboys were Berry’s first visit and considering his skill and reputation, he likely is going to have multiple suitors. Just because players don’t sign with the first team they talk to doesn’t mean they won’t eventually Dallas Cowboys Michael Jackson Jersey , consider Allen Hurns a year ago as a prime example. It was speculated all throughout Tuesday that Berry would indeed take multiple visits unless the Cowboys blew him away with an offer. Considering how they operate when it comes to free agency it isn’t a shock that that didn’t happen. We continue to wait.

FRISCO White Chuck Howley Jersey , Texas (AP) — Dallas Cowboys coach Jason Garrett had two different answers Monday for whether oft-criticized offensive coordinator Scott Linehan would return next season. The first was on his morning radio show, when Garrett responded, “I do,” when asked if he thought Linehan would be back for a sixth season with the Cowboys. The coach added he didn’t expect any significant changes to his staff. At a news conference several hours later, Garrett wasn’t even close to definitive. He said discussions about the coaching staff hadn’t happened after spending most of his time in player interviews coming off the 30-22 divisional playoff loss to the Los Angeles Rams on Saturday. In between, executive vice president of personnel Stephen Jones said on his radio show that it was too early to speculate about the future of coaches or players. While Garrett quieted chatter about his own future by rallying the Cowboys from a 3-5 start to a wild-card win and their third divisional trip in the past five seasons, he didn’t do much to show he was in sync with owner and general manager Jerry Jones or Jones’ son in his season-ending meeting with reporters.“I don’t know how I answered that question this morning,” Garrett said. “Nothing has changed. I feel very good about what Scott Linehan did for us. We’ll have conversations about everybody as we go here the next few days. We’ll make a lot of decisions to put the staff together and put the team together as we go.”Garrett said he considers all the decisions about the team — coaching staff or otherwise — to be collaborative. But he reiterated that Jerry Jones has the final say.“I do believe our relationship is very collaborative,” Garrett said. “I have a tremendous amount of faith and trust in him and hopefully he has the same for me. We talk about all the decisions we make, any player, any coach, and we come to conclusions with both feel good about.”Linehan was heavily criticized during Dallas’ sluggish start because a misfiring offense was largely to blame. There were questions about creativity, including from Hall of Fame quarterback-turned-analyst Troy Aikman, who won three Super Bowls with the Cowboys in the 1990s.Dallas was much better offensively in the second half of the season Chuck Howley Jersey 2019 , after sending its first-round pick in this year’s draft to Oakland for receiver Amari Cooper. But the Cowboys were one of just four teams to convert fewer than half their trips inside the 20-yard line into touchdowns. When Dak Prescott and the Cowboys were struggling, there were also questions about inexperience with first-year quarterbacks coach Kellen Moore, who retired after being Prescott’s backup and went straight into the role of leading that group.“If you look at the success he’s had, the number of games he’s won as a starting quarterback in the NFL over the course of his first three years, it’s a good environment,” Garrett said. “I think Scott and Kellen, those guys have a good understanding of what his strengths are and again some of the things he needs to work on.”After the loss to the Rams, defensive coordinator Rod Marinelli bristled when asked if he was considering retirement. The 69-year-old Marinelli said before the LA game that he was willing to help the Cowboys try to keep passing game coordinator Kris Richard. Also the defensive backs coach, Richard interviewed for head coaching vacancies with the New York Jets, Miami and Tampa Bay.The Associated Press has reported that Miami intends to offer the job to New England defensive coordinator Brian Flores , but hasn’t ruled out Richard if the club can’t reach a deal with Flores. Garrett said he’s hopeful Richard will be back for a second season in Dallas. The contracts of Garrett, Marinelli and Linehan are up after next season, although Jerry Jones has hinted at an extension for Garrett, his coach for 8½ seasons. Dallas has lost six straight divisional games since the franchise’s fifth Super Bowl title following the 1995 season.“I know certainly overall it was a good season Dallas Cowboys Leighton Vander Esch Jersey , but we also know that we’ve had some good teams around here that haven’t taken the next step,” Stephen Jones said. “We’ve got to figure out what that is.” OK, what came to mind when I first started thinking about writing this article was the Green Arrow telling Scott Linehan “You have failed this franchise!” But now that I’ve dispensed with my geek outburst, let’s get into the meat of things. The genesis of this goes back a couple of days, before the divorce between the Dallas Cowboys and their offensive coordinator became final. It started with a look at quarterback Dak Prescott and how he performed down the stretch this season. Then the aspect of how Ezekiel Elliott is one of the premier running backs in the league, but was so often put in unwinnable situations also seemed pertinent. There is a serious argument to be made that their talents were not utilized to the fullest this season. That is certainly a driving factor in Linehan’s departure. It also may bring a little clarity to the old “play-calling versus execution” argument that raged around Linehan all season. As with so many things, this was all inspired by a few things out there in the Twitterverse. (Is that one of the alternate realities in the multiverse? OK, really, geekfest over now.) Here are some that really hit home. Here is what I took away from that: Dak is producing at a high level, is actually more accurate than most NFL quarterbacks, and is at his best under pressure. Those are some statistical things to support the contention that he is a much better quarterback than the conventional wisdom believes. Now add in the old eye test, when we watched him rise to the occasion again and again to get his team to the divisional round of the playoffs. So here is the hypothesis: Linehan didn’t just fail to get the most out of his quarterback. His innate conservatism and stubbornness actually held his young QB back. Here is one more bit of fuel on that fire.Another term that has been used is “bad marriage” between Linehan and Prescott. Clearly, the senior management saw this, and just as clearly Womens Leighton Vander Esch 2019 Jersey , decided they had a legitimate chance of finding a better partner for their franchise field general. There was clearly no rational way to think they could fix things with Linehan on board. In the next year or two, they are going to get a new deal in place with Prescott. Something had to give, and only one thing really could. The same happened with Elliott with those well-known criticisms of the running game. There is an analytics-based theory that running on first down actually decreases the likelihood of success. To perhaps oversimplify the argument, you should be calling plays that have the best chance of moving the sticks when you have ten yards to go, and those are almost never running ones. That is the exact opposite of what Linehan tried to do. That does open up the issue of just how much head coach Jason Garrett is wedded to the same idea. But, even though reports have it that the decision to move on was mostly Garrett’s call, it is also absolutely certain that he was getting some strong input from above that changes had to be made. We will have to see how it all plays out this year, but I, for one, will bet that putting a new man in the OC job is just part of what is being demanded of Garrett. He has to show some flexibility, but at least the perception of intransigence that surrounded Linehan is not readily evident with the head coach. In any case, the running game certainly under-performed in Dallas. That may seem an odd observation given that Zeke was the league’s leading rusher, and has led the NFL in yards per game for his entire career, but consider that the Cowboys were only tenth in rushing overall. With the top ground-gainer on your roster Cheap Leighton Vander Esch Youth Jersey , you should do better. Elliott was really all they had, though. And that is something that can reasonably be laid at Linehan’s feet as well. It goes beyond just 4 and 21. Cole Beasley has been an impressive weapon with Prescott, and with Tony Romo before him. Yet he often disappeared from games in 2018. There is still a good chance that Beas will seek greener pastures (and paychecks) in free agency, but it was just about a given that he was gone if Linehan had remained. Now, at least, the team may make a serious effort to retain him.In the big picture, the weapons the Cowboys have were just not utilized well. The next guy to fill the OC job has to do a better job. That leaves Dallas with the task of finding someone who can do that. Having been in the playoffs may have cost them some opportunities as teams that sat out the postseaon have already signed some who might have been targets. However, the Dallas job has some interesting advantages for whoever that turns out to be. First, the team expects Travis Frederick back, and Connor Williams should be stronger and therefore better after a full offseason conditioning and weight program. That will help both facets of the offense, since both pass protection and run blocking should be improved. And Amari Cooper is now part of the mix and will also have a full year to hone his chemistry with Prescott, while Michael Gallup was clearly on the ascent late in the season. One odd thing that has emerged from all this is that it is anticipated that Kellen Moore will keep his job as the quarterbacks coach. He was obviously a Linehan guy. Most thought his future was handcuffed to Linehan, but at the moment that is not the case. (It must be mentioned that statements about who is going to keep their jobs are not exactly set in stone, as we saw this past week Dallas Cowboys Trysten Hill Jersey , and a new OC may want to bring in his own man there.) But it is reasonable to think that Moore got a vote of confidence from Prescott. In any case, at the moment he has not been judged to be part of the problem.Linehan, of course, was. It should be considered whether he was scapegoated a bit in all this, since the scheme that was used did have Garrett’s fingerprints all over it. But given how things played out with the coaching moves a year ago, any excess blame placed on Linehan may be a case of what goes around, comes around. The Cowboys have a young roster, and outside of Beasley, that certainly applies to the offensive skill positions. They need an offensive coordinator who can maximize that talent. Last season was pretty clear evidence that Linehan was not getting the job done. With a huge payday in the offing for Prescott, possibly Elliott, and likely Cooper, the team had to come up with a better way forward. They have a new one, at least.
