The Bears’ offense is a competent unit Danny Trevathan Jersey , but it is not a unit with an identity. Nor is it an offense with a truly dangerous weapon. Tarik Cohen has his moments, but he is 51st in the NFL in terms of yards per reception, and 13th in terms of yards per rush. He is 32nd in yards from scrimmage per game in the NFL (at 79.4). He’s clearly a great addition to the team, and he’s more than the gadget player some critics dismissed him as from the beginning, but he is not going to knock a defense on its heels. He doesn’t have enough carries to be ranked by Football Outsiders’ DVOA, even if he is their 8th-best receiving running back. Cohen is, frankly, a fantastic ‘2’ for an offense that has a 1-2 punch. That 1 just isn’t playing right now.Time for full disclosure—I went into this piece looking at ten areas that I suspected the Bears were struggling, thinking that I could find a few to build into an article. My original title was going to be “X Things The Bears Need to Improve,” with the idea being that it really didn’t matter if only half of the areas were struggles. No luck. The Bears really have only an area or two where they are struggling, and one of those (Special Teams) is skewed by one bad game. I don’t like arguing from anecdote that severely, so I had to change directions.Of my original ten ideas, this was the only one that really stuck.Meanwhile, Trey Burton is the 19th tight end in the league when it comes to yards after the catch, while only being 9th in terms of targeted air yards (per Next Gen stats). Burton is a solid 11th in yards per reception among tight ends. That’s not bad, by any stretch of the imagination, but it is also not a dominating performance. Things get better for believers in Football Outsiders’ analysis, because according to them he is at least 11th in terms of DVOA among tight ends, and 7th in DYAR. However Authentic Cody Whitehair Jersey , he’s 71st in receiving yards per game. In other words, Burton is playing like a good tight end, and he’s earning the contract Pace gave him. What he’s not doing is forcing defenses to adjust to him, and he’s not taking over games.“Deep threat” Taylor Gabriel is the highest-ranking Bear in terms of receiving yards per game, but he’s only 48th on the list. The low placement of the Bears on these lists is not an artifact of perfect ball distribution, because the Bears are 21st in receiving yards per game as a team. Instead, the receiving corps is adequate. It’s just not dangerous. It’s hard to fault or credit Trubisky in any of this, either. By now, #10 has been analyzed and over-analyzed sufficiently. However, it’s enough to point out that even with a mediocre performance against the Bills, his passer rating is enough to keep him in the top half of quarterbacks without being in the top quartile. He’s 15th in ANY/A. In other words, he’s playing fine football. He has his ups and downs, and he’s keeping drives alive at times, but he’s not taking over games. That is neither a criticism nor an apology--it’s just an observation that even if nothing about Trubisky so far has elevated the Chicago offense on a consistent basis, it’s hard to build a reasonable case that he’s somehow keeping Burton or Gabriel from unlocking their potential. What this leaves is three possibilities. The first, and probably the likeliest, is that the Bears are not going to have a true game-breaker on offense this season. They will have a quietly competent offense that serves as a counter-punch to their defense. The second is that one of the players currently earning solid (but unremarkable) stats will take a step forward. That would be nice, but it seems unlikely that it would suddenly happen in a stretch of games that will feature the Vikings twice and the Rams. The final possibility is that Allen Robinson will be a difference-maker, either by breaking games open himself or by drawing just enough attention to provide one of the others (Gabriel Youth Eric Kush Jersey , Burton, or Cohen are the likeliest) a chance to truly shine. Jacksonville Jaguars coach Doug Marrone is shouldering the blame for the team's four-game losing streak, saying he "hasn't done a good enough job for whatever reason to get everyone's mind in the right place."Marrone insists he's not trying to be a "martyr, a shield or anything like that."Truth is he's protecting everyone: top executive Tom Coughlin, general manager Dave Caldwell, inconsistent quarterback Blake Bortles , unavailable running back Leonard Fournette and dozens more underperforming players on an underachieving team. The Jaguars (3-5) have been one of the NFL's biggest busts in 2018, especially last month when they went 0-for-October and looked nothing like the team that advanced to the AFC championship game nine months earlier."There is a story out there about this team. It is an ugly story," said Marrone, who is counting on his team to regroup during its Week 9 bye."But the story hasn't ended. We can still control how this story reads. When we get away, we have to think long and hard about it. We have to come back and we have to figure out what the story is going to be on the 2018 team."Injuries are a big reason for the slide, especially with Fournette — the team's offensive centerpiece — missing six games because of a strained right hamstring. But Coughlin, Caldwell and Bortles deserve criticism.Coughlin designed an old-school team to play in a pass-happy league, one in which running the ball is barely important and hiding a mediocre quarterback is next to impossible. The ground-and-pound Jags want to control the clock, limit Bortles' throws and play stout defense. It can work, but it usually needs everything to go right.Turnovers, dropped passes, defensive lapses, the Jaguars have seen those too often and aren't built to handle much adversity or overcome double-digit deficits. It doesn't help that Jacksonville is getting so little from its rookie class and its free-agent crop.Coughlin and Caldwell were so confident they had a playoff team in place that they used the draft to prepare for 2019 http://www.bearsauthorizedshops.com/aut … sie-jersey , adding several down-the-road replacements for veteran starters. First-round pick and defensive lineman Taven Bryan has nine tackles in eight games. Second-round receiver DJ Chark has 12 catches for 159 yards to go along with a fumble and several costly drops. Third-round safety Ronnie Harrison has been the best of the bunch while playing mostly in certain defensive packages.Right tackle Will Richardson (fourth) is on injured reserve. Quarterback Tanner Lee (fifth) remains on the practice squad. Linebacker Leon Jacobs (sixth) has barely played outside special teams. And punter Logan Cooke (seventh) has failed repeatedly to flip the field when needed.Free agents Andrew Norwell, Donte Moncrief, D.J. Hayden, Austin Seferian-Jenkins and Marqise Lee have been equally disappointing.Norwell, a 2017 All-Pro guard from Carolina, was expected to bolster the offensive line and help give the Jaguars one of the best running attacks in the league. Instead, he looks unworthy of his five-year, $66.5 million contract.Moncrief, who signed a one-year deal worth $9.6 million, was supposed to offset the loss of physical receiver Allen Robinson. He has 29 catches for 379 yards and two scores.Hayden (toe) has missed six consecutive games, and Seferian-Jenkins (core muscle) and Lee (knee) are on injured reserve."Playing football is easy," defensive tackle Malik Jackson said. "Staying healthy is the hard part."A legitimate franchise quarterback might be able to make up for all of Jacksonville's deficiencies. But Coughlin and Caldwell decided to give Bortles a three-year, $54 million contract in February, betting that the fifth-year starter would continue developing and adding to a growing list of turnover-free games.Neither has happened, and the Jaguars are seemingly stuck with Bortles because of his $21 million contract in 2019. He has 10 touchdown passes, eight interceptions and three lost fumbles to go along with 18 sacks.Throw in a training camp fight, two weeklong suspensions, a locker room scuffle last month, four players getting detained in London because of an unsettled nightclub tab Adrian Amos Jersey , Jalen Ramsey's mouth and the ultra-confident defense failing to maintain its 2017 form, and the Jaguars have been more of a farce than a force in the AFC."The most important thing as a team is we've got to keep our belief strong," defensive end Calais Campbell said. "No matter what the outside noise says or does, we just got to keep our belief strong. Five losses in this league this early sucks, but five losses throughout the season, that's not bad at all; that's a heck of a year."We've got a lot of ball left to play. We made it real hard on ourselves, but I truly believe the guys that we have here are built to be able to do something special, even considering our current circumstance."Marrone hopes to get Fournette, Hayden and cornerback A.J. Bouye (calf) back after the bye week. He also wouldn't rule out staff and lineup changes.Already saddled with two division losses at home, the Jaguars have little room for error after the break if they're able to write a feel-good ending to their "ugly story.""When no one picks you to win and everyone thinks you are going to stink, it's, 'Let's go out there and prove everybody wrong and play with a chip on our shoulder and go,'" Marrone said. "Then all of a sudden, when everybody is on the bandwagon, it's the opposite. 'Let's prove everybody right.' Either way, you are trying to prove right or wrong what is going on."We just haven't lived up to the expectations to this day."
Oh yeah Jahleel Addae Color Rush Jersey , I definitely missed this Victory Monday feeling. And it wasn’t just any old victory. It was a complete and utter tail-whipping of the Arizona Cardinals in front of a home(?) crowd at StubHub Center.Philip Rivers did some amazing, historic things and was the premium gas that unlocked the Chargers offense to the tune of 45 points, their highest output of the season. The defense got the juice back with Joey Bosa getting back to his ways, as well. It was awesome to see defensive coordinator Gus Bradley get back to lining him and Melvin Ingram up on the same side in order to give the opposing offensive line fits. It was exactly as I remembered it from last year.(Kisses fingers) Muah. It was a thing of beauty.Without getting ahead of myself and delving too much into the finer details of Sunday evening, let’s go ahead and get right to the good stuff.Ladies ans Gentlemen, your Surge or Static players from this week.SurgeQB Philip RiversIt really couldn’t have gotten much better for Rivers against the Cardinals unless, you know, he was able to complete that single pass to RB Austin Ekeler in the middle of the third quarter.Still, 28-of-29 was still good enough to BREAK THE NFL RECORD FOR COMPLETION PERCENTAGE IN A SINGLE GAME WITH 96.6%!As Rivers would say, “Shoot. that’s pretty dang good.”Rivers did exactly what he needed to do in this game to really shake off all of the bad juju following his first multi-interception game last week. Especially during this final stretch through the month of December, Rivers is going to have stretch to make sure he is capable of carrying this team to the playoffs.DE Joey BosaMan, it is so great to have the big bear back on the field for the Bolts. After his season-debut against the Denver Broncos last Sunday Russell Okung Color Rush Jersey , many were likely letdown by a performance that saw him fail to record a single TFL or sack on the evening. However, in his first game in which he accrued his normal snap-share, Bosa found himself picking up right where he left off in 2017. The defensive end took down rookie quarterback Josh Rosen on two seperate occasions for the Chargers’ only two sacks of the evening. He also collected five total tackles, good for third on the team, two other tackles-for-loss, and two quarterback hits.Welcome back, Joey.S Derwin JamesOh, is this a third player included in the Surge section? You better believe it. And why not, especially after a game in which so much good took place?James led the team in tackles once again with seven while also adding a pair of passes defensed and his second interception of the season. He currently leads the team in tackles by a mile with 78. Linebacker Jatavis Brown sits behind him with a respectable 60.Although it may seem that James has calmed down since his hot start to the season, he still has a massive impact on each game, regardless if he is registering sacks and interceptions each week. The rookie is all over the field and has been about as consistent as anyone on the entire team.StaticThe coaching staffReally, there wasn’t too much “bad” from this game involving individual players. If anything Junior Seau Color Rush Jersey , the only negative news that found it’s way out of the Chargers lopsided win was that Gordon was hurt during a trick-play in the third quarter while the team was already up 28-10.It obviously adds a little insult to injury (pun intended) when Gordon had an injury designation coming into the game, in the first place. But this is all really tough. On one hand, the New Orleans Saints have been throttling teams and they haven’t done much in the way of benching starters when things get out of hand, they usually keep the pedal to the metal.I don’t see anything wrong with Lynn and co. deciding to keep Gordon on the field but I believe it was in bad taste to try a double-reverse with your best player given the surrounding circumstances. They should all be thanking their lucky stars that the injury was not season-ending in nature and should allow Gordon to return prior to the post season and, in case of a meltdown, help the Chargers secure a playoff spot if it comes down to winning the last few games of the season. For the past 2陆 months, one thing has been clear in the NFL: Drew Brees and the New Orleans Saints are hard to stop. The Saints’ winning streak reached 10 games with their 31-17 victory over Atlanta on Thanksgiving night. The Saints will play their second consecutive Thursday night game when they open Week 13 by facing the Dallas Cowboys. And it’s not the least bit surprising that the surging Saints kept the No. 1 spot in the latest AP Pro32 poll. They received all 12 first-place votes and 384 points in balloting Tuesday by media members who regularly cover the NFL.“Right here, right now, Drew Brees is this year’s MVP in a very crowded field of contenders,” Newsday’s Bob Glauber said. “At almost 40 years old, he’s playing perhaps his best football, with 29 touchdown passes and just two interceptions.”The league’s other 10-1 team Desmond King Color Rush Jersey , the Los Angeles Rams, stayed at No. 2 after its bye week. And the Kansas City Chiefs, who also were on a bye last week, remained No. 3.Tom Brady and the New England Patriots are still No. 4 after disposing of the New York Jets 27-13.The only change in the top five was the Chicago Bears, who inched up a spot to No. 5 after topping the Lions 23-16 on Thanksgiving as backup quarterback Chase Daniel threw for 230 yards and two touchdowns in place of the injured Mitchell Trubisky. The Los Angeles Chargers jumped two places to No. 6 after dominating Arizona 45-10 as Philip Rivers tied the NFL mark for consecutive completions at 25 and the broke record for the most to start a game. And the Houston Texans, who have won eight in a row after a 0-3 start, remained No. 7 after topping the Tennessee Titans 34-17 on Monday night.“The surging Texans honored late owner Bob McNair with an eighth consecutive victory behind a powerful ground game and the usual stingy defense,” said Ira Kaufman of Fox 13 in Tampa, Florida. The Pittsburgh Steelers dropped three spots to No. 8 after their 24-17 loss at Denver.“Big Ben blows the game in Denver,” Fox Sports’ John Czarnecki said of Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger, who threw for 462 yards but had two interceptions and now has 12 for the season. They will look to rebound Sunday night when they host the Chargers, who are expected to be without running back Melvin Gordon Corey Liuget Color Rush Jersey , who sprained the medial collateral ligament in his right knee during the rout of the Cardinals. The Minnesota Vikings and Seattle Seahawks, who are both in contention for wild-card spots in the NFC, each moved up a spot to Nos. 9 and 10.Among the teams making the biggest drop was the Cincinnati Bengals, who plummeted five spots to No. 24. They have lost five of six after a 4-1 start and will finish the season without quarterback Andy Dalton, who went on injured reserve with a thumb injury to his throwing hand.“The record may not show it, but this could very well be the NFL’s worst team by year’s end,” said Alex Marvez of Sirius XM.
Tim Patrick doesn’t have to dig too deep for his motivation. That’s especially true for the Denver Broncos receiver this Sunday versus the San Francisco 49ers. Patrick not only will see his playing time increase Denver Broncos Customized Jerseys , and with it his chance to make plays, he’ll get to do it against the team who waived him last season. As he told Ryan Edwards, Andrew Mason and Steve Atwater on Friday’s 1st & 10 @ 10 on Orange and Blue 760, “When you get cut by somebody, it digs deep. Of course I want to show them what they’re missing out on, but my job is to do whatever I gotta do to help my team win.”Patrick could get that expanded role because of the injury to Emmanuel Sanders. Patrick currently sits at four receptions for 73 yards and a touchdown. For the Broncos (6-6) to stay in the AFC playoff picture and keep their winning streak alive, Patrick will have to take advantage of his opportunity and help the offense chug along. He won’t have to dig too deep to find his motivation. Bonus listen Ian Henson joined the guys to preview Sunday’s game and current state of the team. ENGLEWOOD, Colo. (AP) — Case Keenum is joining his fifth team in five years and the Denver Broncos are turning to their fifth quarterback since Peyton Manning retired 24 months ago.General manager John Elway called Keenum “a great fit for us” after the sixth-year pro parlayed a breakout year in Minnesota into a two-year, $36 million deal with Denver.“Along with that experience,” Elway said Denver Broncos T-Shirts , “his leadership and competitiveness are what you look for in a quarterback.”Elway, by the way, isn’t done looking at quarterbacks.Elway and coach Vance Joseph were in Norman, Oklahoma, checking out Baker Mayfield‘s pro day when free agency opened Wednesday. Then they were headed for Los Angeles to watch Josh Rosen‘s pro day at UCLA on Thursday. Also, a person with knowledge of the talks told The Associated Press the Broncos were in negotiations Wednesday to trade QB Trevor Siemian to Minnesota, where the Vikings are pursuing free agent Kirk Cousins to be their starter. The Broncos were busy when free agency opened, keeping linebacker Todd Davis (three years, $15 million); adding cornerback Tramaine Brock (one year, $4 million); finalizing Aqib Talib‘s trade to the Los Angeles Rams; and trying to move Siemian Denver Broncos Hats , who won the starting QB job in Denver each of the last two years.Keenum is expected to sign his deal Thursday, giving the 30-year-old journeyman the big payday that’s long eluded him and taking the pressure off Elway to use the fifth overall pick in the draft next month on a quarterback. It’s no guarantee, however, that Elway won’t still use that pick on a QB.Besides Mayfield and Rosen, other high-profile fixes for franchises with quarterback quandaries such as Denver’s include Wyoming’s Josh Allen, USC‘s Sam Darnold, Louisville’s Lamar Jackson and Oklahoma State’s Mason Rudolph.Coming off a career-changing season, Keenum was widely considered the second-most attractive veteran QB on the market behind Cousins. And he is a player the Broncos know well because Gary Kubiak, now the Broncos’ senior personnel adviser, had him for two seasons while Kubiak was head coach of the Houston Texans.“Case is perfect for our team https://www.broncosfanstore.com/hoodie , both as a player and as a person,” said Joseph, who also worked for the Texans. “He’s playing the best football of his career right now and has gotten better with every opportunity he’s had. Being around him in Houston, Case is a tremendous person and teammate with strong leadership skills and a terrific work ethic. He’ll be great in our locker room.”Keenum, who made $2 million last year, went 11-3 in place of an injured Sam Bradford, leading the Vikings to the NFC championship game.He threw for more than 3,500 yards with 22 touchdowns and seven interceptions. His signature moment was that last-second 61-yard touchdown toss to Stefon Diggs that stunned the Saints 29-24 in the playoffs. The Broncos haven’t been back to the playoffs since Manning retired following Denver’s 24-10 triumph over the Carolina Panthers in Super Bowl 50 two years ago. They’ve cycled through Mark Sanchez, Siemian, Brock Osweiler and Paxton Lynch Karl Mecklenburg Color Rush Jersey , while going a combined 14-18.The Broncos, coming off a 5-11 season, were considered an early front-runner to land Cousins. Minnesota, however, had a sparkling stadium, new state-of-the-art training facility, stacked roster and coaching stability to offer him, while the Broncos’ main magnet was Von Miller.Even though he issued a public plea for Cousins to join him in Denver, Miller is welcoming Keenum to town .“Looks/Feels right to me!” Miller said in an Instagram post on Tuesday. “We got what we were looking for! Franchise QB that’s the perfect fit for DENVER! (at)johnelway with the deep 3 pointer! Like always! Leeettttss Goooo!!! (at)casekeenum7 (at)casekeenum7 Time for me to hold up my end of the deal now!”Notes: The Broncos placed second-round tenders on two restricted free agents: C Matt Paradis and OLB Shaq Barrett. They declined to offer a tender to WR Bennie Fowler III.

On Friday Blue Khalil Mack Jersey , Chicago Bears rookie wide out Anthony Miller was back at his alma mater, the University of Memphis, signing autographs on campus at the bookstore. While there he told The Daily Helmsman’s Joshua Alfonzo Vinson that he expects to return to the field after the bye week. Miller dislocated his left shoulder twice during Chicago’s week 3 win in Arizona, and he missed their 48-10, week 4 drubbing of the Buccaneers last Sunday. Leading up to the Bucs game, head coach Matt Nagy called Miller day to day, although he was held out of practice the whole week. The Bears had their entire bye week off of practice, and they aren’t due back at Halas Hall until Monday for a light workout. The Bears aren’t required to give an injury report until Wednesday, so we’ll have to wait and see how they list Miller.Chicago’s next game is against the Miami Dolphins on Sunday, October 14, at noon in Hard Rock Stadium. Miller gave a brief on camera interview to Vinson that he shared via Twitter.

"The thing we've got to understand, man, we can't go up and down. This team goes up and down. We've got to stay consistent in our preparation. Whatever we did last week, we've got to stay consistent."Consistency has not exactly been a hallmark for the Redskins (3-2) in alternating not only wins and losses but games so uplifting and deflating that it's hard to get a read on what they are. A 43-19 blowout loss at the hands of the New Orleans Saints motivated players within only a few days to get ready for the Panthers, but upcoming games against Dallas and at the New York Giants should test their ability to respond to success."(It's about) staying focused and keeping that consistent approach," cornerback Quinton Dunbar said. "Don't get too high. Don't get too low. When you get wins, don't be high like you got the whole world in your hand. When you lose, your whole world turns down. It's about staying steady."In some ways, it helps that the Panthers limited the Redskins to 119 offensive yards in the second half and almost came back from a 17-point deficit. Cornerback Josh Norman said players realize "everything is not peaches and cream," which should help them stay focused for the Cowboys."There's room for improvement," tight end Jordan Reed said. "Even though we won this game Womens Joe Looney Jersey , we definitely could have put up even more numbers and stopped them on defense. You see that and it motivates you to be the best that you can be. We haven't been that yet, so it's coming."Some things we learned from the Redskins' victory over the Panthers:ROARING DEFENSEAfter allowing only 288 yards and being on the wrong side of some turnovers by the offense, the Panthers' defense will need to be even better at the Philadelphia Eagles (3-3) on Sunday. Players gained some confidence from their play in the second half, but see some definite areas of need with the defending Super Bowl champions up next."We just have to make some more plays on defense," linebacker Luke Kuechly said. "We have to play better in the red zone. That's something that we'll get addressed and improve on moving forward."Adrian Peterson's 97 yards on 17 carries showed another glaring hole for Carolina, which entered tied for the eighth-best run defense in the league. Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz and running backs Wendell Smallwood and Corey Clement present another challenge in that department.PETERSON POWERDespite dealing with shoulder, knee and ankle injuries, Peterson had another game that made it look like he's way younger than 33. Peterson never doubted he'd play and should be good to go against Dallas."It was definitely mind over matter," Peterson said. "It was game where you've just got to bite down and put your best foot forward. So that's what I did. I already had made up my mind by Friday that, 'Hey I'm gonna give it a go. I know it's going to be painful but its mind over matter and just keep pressing.' That's what I ended up doing."BIG GUYS BACKCarolina could easily point to two fumbles by rookie D.J. Moore and an interception by Cam Newton as the reasons for a disheartening loss . But the Panthers have reason for optimism in the coming weeks after getting tight end Greg Olsen back from a broken foot and linebacker Thomas Davis for his first game of the season after serving a suspension for performance-enhancers.Olsen had four catches for 48 yards; he gives Newton a big, reliable target in the passing game."Toward the second half, I felt like I was able to play pretty close to what I was hoping http://www.dallascowboysteamonline.com/ … ath-jersey ," Olsen said.Davis had six tackles and two passes defensed and feels he has another level to his game."Just have to be better," Davis said. "You have to get back into the feel of going out and playing football and that's something that I've learned today."SMITH SETTLES DOWNGoing 23 of 39 with an interception at New Orleans sent Redskins quarterback Alex Smith to a new low this season. He wasn't perfect in throwing 21 of 36 for 163 yards and two TDs against Carolina, even without running back Chris Thompson and receiver Jamison Crowder.Smith leaned on Reed (five catches for 36 yards) and fellow tight end Vernon Davis (three catches for 48 yards) in finding new ways to run the offense."I feel like we're untapped offensively 鈥?a lot of potential," Smith said. "I said untapped as we continue to find out who we are, our identity as an offense." Having already compared Browns rookie Baker Mayfield to John Elway and Brett Favre earlier this year Womens Eric Murray Jersey , Ravens defensive coordinator Don Martindale had more high praise for another young quarterback.Ahead of this week’s game against the Chiefs, Martindale said Patrick Mahomes reminded him of another quarterback who passed through Kansas City.“I think Mahomes is [Joe] Montana 鈥?I’m talking about the San Francisco Montana and not the Kansas City Montana,” Martindale said, via Jamison Hemsley of ESPN.com. “I think how everything is cyclical and history repeats itself. I think you’re seeing that combination between Andy [Reid] and Mahomes of Montana and Bill Walsh. I really do.”(Gee, it’s almost like he’s just buttering them up. Maybe next week when they play the Buccaneers he’ll say Jameis Winston reminds him of Vinny Testaverde, which now that you mention it. . . .)Mahomes is certainly having an impressive season Womens Kendall Fuller Jersey , with 41 touchdown passes. That puts him 232 touchdowns, four Super Bowl rings, three Super Bowl MVPs, two league MVP awards and one gold jacket behind Montana. So year, they’re basically the same guy.“He’s wise beyond his years, the way he controls the line of scrimmage http://www.thechiefsfootballauthentic.c … -authentic , the way he checks, the audibles, snap count, the way he moves the safeties with his looks and his dropbacks,” Ravens safety Eric Weddle said. “[I’m] obviously impressed with what I’ve seen, and it’s exciting for me to go out there and try to make him mess up with what I can do and maybe force him into some throws he wouldn’t want to do.”Of course http://www.thechiefsfootballauthentic.c … -authentic , the Ravens have been pretty impressive this year in their own right, practically a modern version of the 1985 Bears. Or something. co-host Chris Simms had an extensive presence in the 90-minute NBC pregame show that aired before Colts-Chiefs on Saturday. He also made a cameo during the game.Late in the fourth quarter, at a time when the Chiefs presumably would be running the ball in order to run the clock, quarterback Patrick Mahomes dialed up a deep ball for receiver Tyreek Hill. An official running just beyond the white stripe followed the play. Just inside the five yard line, the official ran into a large object shaped just like Chris Simms.Simms received a hard, two-handed shove from the official — one that may have put Simms on the ground if he’d been wearing dress shoes (as he was earlier in the day). Eyeing Colts opponents: Baltimore Ravens 2018 season preview Each SB Nation NFL writing team examined their respective franchise and put together a brief season preview. These stories are intended to help explain to fans of other teams some of the most important topics and issues facing each NFL team as the 2018 NFL Season approaches. Today Youth Chester Rogers Jersey , we focus on the Baltimore Ravens, who the Colts will meet Monday night for their second preseason game. All answers were provided by Baltimore Beatdown.Notable free agent additionsWR Michael Crabtree, WR Willie Snead IV, WR John Brown, QB Robert Griffin IIIOver / under: 8 wins -- Over John Harbaugh’s Ravens have only gone under eight wins once in ten years. The one outlier was Joe Flacco suffering a season-ending ACL-tear. The team’s roster looks stronger than in recent years, also.Rookie I’m most excited about Hard to not say Lamar Jackson due to his position and play from college, but I’ll go with TE Hayden Hurst. He’s a massive target for Joe Flacco and Hurst’s hands are trustworthy. Joe often works tight ends into the system as we saw with Dennis Pitta and Benjamin Watson. I see no change coming with the first-round pick.Best position battle heading into camp The right tackle position is up for grabs after the Ravens declined Austin Howard’s option. Both James Hurst and Orlando Brown Jr. are capable of winning the starting job and I’m excited to see the battle unfold.Biggest storyline heading into camp No contest, it’s the ‘quarterback competition’ between Joe Flacco and Lamar Jackson. It’s not really a story though, as Joe is ahead of Jackson in quality of play and from the owner to the coaching staff they’ve all stated Joe is the starter.Under-the-radar storyline heading into camp How can the offensive line replace key losses at both center and right tackle? The Ravens declined Austin Howard’s option and Ryan Jensen signed a big deal with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Both were quality starters.Notable injuries heading into training campI was planning on this being centered around Jimmy Smith and his Achilles tear, but he’s already participating in practice only seven months after the non-contact injury. Instead, the most notable is Marshal Yanda, but even head coach John Harbaugh said, “If we were playing a game http://www.thecoltsfootballauthentic.co … -authentic , he probably could play -- as tough as he is.”A Colts PerspectiveThe Colts don’t face the Ravens during the 2018 regular season. This likely played a role in getting both franchises to agree to practice together prior to Monday night’s game. Still, there will always be a rivalry between the two team fan bases rooted in the circumstances that led to the Colts departing Baltimore.Ravens General Manager Ozzie Newsome has started to show signs of fallibility. Baltimore’s long run as one of the most dominant teams in the NFL, with one of the most physical defenses of the 2000s, faded five years ago. The dominant running game that previously featured Ray Rice, has struggled to find a new bell cow back who can consistently carry the load. Joe Flacco was unable to use his Super Bowl MVP nod and performance as a springboard for his career. He remains an average NFL signal caller who is known for hitting on some deep plays but lacking in consistency. His TD to INT ratio has been really bad other than his 2014 season — 71:62 in years 2013, 2015-2017 | 27:12 in 2014.Flacco’s uncertain future and inability to live up to the monster contract offer he received after the Ravens won the Super Bowl has finally resulted in some real pressure at the spot. Baltimore brought in RGIII via free agency and traded up to draft Lamar Jackson at the bottom of the first round in the 2018 NFL Draft. If Flacco gets the Ravens off to a slow start, Newsome might start looking toward the future and give others a chance. Could we see another Eli Manning “situation” where a veteran quarterback gets benched in the middle of the year?Of course, the bigger news as it relates to Monday night’s game is that the Colts and Ravens got into an altercation during group practices over the weekend. It will be worth watching how the teams respond during a night game in live game action. We always hope for both teams to play a clean game and to escape the week injury free so hopefully the extra adrenaline doesn’t lead to retaliation or cheap shots from either team.It will also be worth seeing a lot of the Colts young players after another week of training camp practice. This will be their first chance to face opponents who they have already had a chance to work against in practice. Which team and coaching staff will use those repetitions to come out on top? Andrew Luck keeps checking off the boxes. On Saturday, he got the Indianapolis Colts' offense in sync, bounced back from yet another big hit and led them to a go-ahead touchdown before leaving in the second quarter.Yes, five days after a mediocre performance in his first home start in more than 19 months, Luck looked much sharper as the Colts hung on for a 23-17 victory over San Francisco."I really wanted to feel like we created some type of rhythm and we did," he said. "We put a sustained drive together Womens Margus Hunt Jersey , and the other ones, we made some mistakes. But getting in rhythm was something I really wanted to see."He was in good company.Coach Frank Reich and Colts fans also wanted to see improvement in what's likely Luck's final action of the preseason. The results were better.Luck scrambled for a 15-yard run on third-and-13 then threw a 15-yard TD pass to a leaping Eric Ebron on the next play to give Indy a 7-3 lead midway with 8:47 left in the first half. He finished 8 of 10 with 90 yards and took one sack.Christine Michael's 1-yard TD plunge late in the third quarter made it 14-9, a lead Indy never relinquished.Otherwise, it was a tough day for the Colts, who struggled to establish the run — and couldn't stop San Francisco's physical ground game in the first half."They did a nice job running the ball and just like offensively in the run game, we need to improve defensively in the run game," Reich said after his defense allowed 126 yards rushing.Somehow, the Colts kept the 49ers out of the end zone until the final minutes and took advantage of Jacoby Brissett's 53-yard pass play to Seantavius Jones late in the third quarter. Two plays later, Michael scored to give Indy a 14-9 lead.It was enough to give Luck his first home win since Jan. 1, 2017.Jimmy Garoppolo, meanwhile, couldn't get the ball into the end zone. He was 9 of 19 for 135 yards, leading the 49ers to only two field goals before departing in the third quarter. Alfred Morris carried 17 times for 84 yards Youth Joe Haeg Jersey , doing the bulk of his work in the first half.Former Colts receiver Pierre Garcon had two catches for 62 yards."We ran the ball very well, but I was just saying this to the team — running the ball well doesn't (automatically) get you points," 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan said. "We were 0 for 3 in the red zone."Robbie Gould's 32-yard field goal gave the 49ers a 9-7 lead late in the third quarter. But all San Francisco could manage the rest of the game was Nick Mullens' 1-yard TD run and Jeremy McNichols' 2-point conversion run with 4:07 left, spoiling the return of cornerback Richard Sherman ."There were some good plays, there were some other plays I felt rusty on, but overall I felt pretty good," said Sherman, who is coming back from a torn Achilles tendon. "I would have preferred (defending a deep ball)."Ebron caught five passes for 54 yards for Indy, which got starting safety Malik Hooker back. He missed the second half of his rookie season after tearing two ligaments in his right knee.NATIONAL ANTHEMWhen the 49ers visited Indianapolis in October, nearly two dozen players demonstrated by kneeling during the national anthem — prompting Vice President Mike Pence to walk out of Lucas Oil Stadium. This time, nobody took a knee while the anthem played. The only demonstration came from San Francisco receiver Marquise Goodwin, who raised his fist again.INJURIES49ers: Linebacker Reuben Foster did not return after being diagnosed with a concussion in the third quarter, and cornerback Jimmie Ward left in the first half with a quadriceps injury. Shanahan said he doesn't expect to Foster in the preseason finale. Receiver Marquise Goodwin also left in the first half with a hand injury but returned. San Francisco played without running backs Jerick McKinnon (knee) Womens Jabaal Sheard Jersey , Matt Breida (shoulder) and Joe Williams (ribs) or backup offensive linemen Erik Magnuson (hamstring) and Gary Gilliam.Colts: Defensive end John Simon (neck), safety Ronald Martin (shoulder), offensive lineman Denzelle Good (knee) and safety T.J. Green (hamstring) all left in the second half. None of those four retuned. Indy was already missing cornerbacks Quincy Wilson (hand) and Nate Hairston (hamstring), linebacker Anthony Walker (groin), defensive linemen Denico Autry (lower leg) and Tyquan Lewis (foot), running backs Marlon Mack (hamstring), Robert Turbin (ankle), newly acquired back Brandon Oliver and Tion Green, and receivers James Wright (knee) and K.J. Brent (knee).UP NEXT49ers: Wrap up the preseason at home Thursday against the Los Angeles Chargers.Colts: Close out the preseason at Cincinnati.
Snap counts http://www.bearsfootballauthentics.com/ … -authentic , stats and more: Chicago Bears vs Green Bay Packers All statistics and snap counts are taken directly from the NFL’s Game Statistic and Information System. After the game, Chicago Bears’ head coach Matt Nagy said that he wanted his players and coaches to keep the feeling they had after losing to the Green Bay Packers 24-23. The painful sting of a disappointing loss is something that will push them to take that extra rep in the weight room, or spend a little more time in their playbook, or stay after practice a little while longer. The Bears have no choice but to get back to work this week and try to even their record one week from today when they take on the Seattle Seahawks in their home opener on Monday Night Football. But before we shift our focus forward, let’s take a look at how some of the team stats went last night, how the playing time shaped up, plus spotlight a few individual stats. The Packers held the overall yardage advantage 370 to 294, but the Bears had better third down efficiency (7-17-41% to 5-13-38%), had more first downs (18 to 16), and had more time of possession (33:22 to 26:38). Chicago’s run D held the Packers to a 3.2 yards per carry, but their pass defense allowed a hobbled Aaron Rodgers to throw for 286 yards, with a passer rating of 130.7. Two-time All-Pro pass rusher Khalil Mack and top receiver Allen Robinson look as if they're just about ready to return after missing the Chicago Bears' past two games because of injuries. Both players practiced without limitations Thursday for the second consecutive day.The NFC North-leading Bears hope to have them back in the lineup against the Detroit Lions at Soldier Field on Sunday."These are strange deals because, literally, as you're going through it (you're) trying to figure out where they're at on a day-to-day basis," coach Matt Nagy said Thursday. "Where are you at? Can you go 100 percent? Can you not? How do you feel? And we need to take that into consideration and discuss that, which leads up to game time and then how much, if so."Robinson sent strong signals that he intends to play, saying he's "100 percent" after a groin injury kept him from playing in victories over the struggling New York Jets and Buffalo Bills. He has 25 catches for 285 and two touchdowns in six games after signing a three-year contract with Chicago in March.Robinson missed just about all of last season with Jacksonville after tearing the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee early in the opener. He was brought along slowly in the preseason as he worked his way back while trying to learn a new system and develop a rapport with quarterback Mitchell Trubisky."I'm feeling great, and I'm definitely anxious to get back out there," Robinson said. "It's been a tough couple weeks, just having to watch the game from the sideline, so I'm excited."Mack, who did not make himself available for comment, got off to a huge start with the Bears following a trade from Oakland just before the opener. He had five sacks and four forced fumbles through the first four games. But he suffered an ankle injury early in an overtime loss at Miami on Oct. 14 and was largely a nonfactor the following week when New England beat Chicago at Soldier Field.Mack had not missed a game since Oakland drafted him with the fifth overall pick in 2014, before sitting out the past two. And he still was adjusting to defensive coordinator Vic Fangio's system even though he sure looked dominant before he got hurt."He didn't practice much the two weeks he's missed ... so he's not where he needs to be or where we want him to be," Fangio said. "But he's certainly prepared enough to go out there and play if his ankle will let him."
Dak Prescott saved his most-aggressive https://www.dallascowboysteamonline.com … sch-jersey performance for Detroit Dallas Cowboys Hoodie , his toughest secondary matchup yet Being the Cowboys quarterback means dealing with high expectations and relentless criticism when you don’t get the job done. Troy Aikman has admitted avoiding public places like the grocery store following poor performances. Tony Romo spent years being called ‘overrated’ by his critics while the undrafted-turned-Pro-Bowler just may be the most under-appreciated quarterback in NFL history. Nobody is spared from the wrath and the same is the case for Dak Prescott who started his Cowboys career going 18-6 in his first 24 games. Up until this past week’s win over the Lions, Prescott was 5-6 in his last 11 games. He also failed to reach 200 passing yards in nine of those games with an 8-11 touchdown-to-interceptions ratio. That’s why the importance of his performance against the Lions cannot be overstated though it’s been slightly overshadowed by arguably the best player on that field. Ezekiel Elliott’s 240 total yard performance was easily the best outing of his 29-game career. His 152 rushing yards was his third-best on 25 carries, which was only his eighth-most in three seasons. Elliott was outstanding and he showed exactly why he was drafted fourth overall. Still, in context, Ezekiel Elliott did what he was supposed to do against the NFL’s worst rushing defense... he dominated them. Even though Elliott saw eight or more in the box 32% of the time (fifth-most in Week 4), he gashed the Lions all day long for over six yards per carry. It’s certainly impressive but that’s what you expect from the league’s leading rusher by nearly 90 yards. What Dak Prescott did though was not only fantastic but also one of the most unlikeliest of feats.A few weeks ago, I mentioned that a good day for total offense is 300+ yards, and a great day is anything over 400. Passing for 200+ yards is an expectation for NFL quarterbacks. On the surface, 255 passing yards for Dak ranks 18th for the week Customized Dallas Cowboys Jerseys , five quarterbacks had 400+ passing yards and eight others went over 300. It wasn’t the amount of passing yards that we should be impressed with, it was the way he got there and everything in between.Dak’s composure, the poise that we’ve all been waiting to see, returned in terms of his confidence and he looked like that 18-6 Dak Prescott again. Here’s the NextGen breakdown of Dak Prescott over these four weeks:Dak's 2018TTAgg. %Comp %Exp. Comp %Comp. +/-Pass. RateAYTSDak is clawing his way out of the slump he was in.Three weeks in, Prescott’s expected completion percentage was 53.5% but he exceeded that by 9.5% which was only usurped this week by Jared Goff and Matthew Stafford. His time to throw shows that he was attempting to not hold the ball as much. Prescott was throwing well-short of the sticks, as high as four-yards short against the Seahawks, but against the Lions he was throwing it almost three yards past the marker... best of the week. Here’s where we get to the best part, the “aggression percentage” which determines how many passing attempts are made in tight windows with a defender one-yard or less away from the target.Often times those with a high aggression percentages can also correlate with quarterbacks that turn the ball over a lot such as Eli Manning or Jameis Winston; however, great quarterbacks are often mixed in that list as well. You have to be aggressive www.authenticsdallascowboys.com , take shots, and make tight-window throws to be among the best in the NFL. Through his first three years, Prescott ranked middle of the pack in aggression percentage. As a rookie, Dak attempted three passes of 20+ yards on average per game. That number dropped to 2.8 last season and as low as 0.75 per game this season. To see that 48% of Dak’s attempts were also of the “big boy” variety was a pleasant surprise. Considering he accomplished this versus the previously top-rated Lions’ pass defense was shocking. Dak Prescott was ‘pea-cocking’ at it’s finest.Darius Slay, Quandre Diggs, and Glover Quin are all among the top defensive backs in the league. This Lions’ unit held Tom Brady to 133 yards, Jimmy Garoppolo to 198, and Sam Darnold to 206. All three of those quarterbacks would likely finish ahead of Prescott in most passing categories yet Dak outperformed all of them against this Lions defense that averaged only 152 passing yards surrendered per game. By the way, Prescott did this at the same time that Matthew Stafford carved up his defense for over 300 yards with only six incompletions.Dak’s day against the Lions showed his willingness to fight through the adversity of the last few weeks and not go into a shell against a great secondary. Dak gets criticized for not taking chances or for bad ball placement but some of these throws were outstanding. In fact Dallas Cowboys T-Shirt , Next Gen has a stat called “improbable completions” where it considers everything from receiver separation to air yards and gives the probability of the pass being completed. Prescott only has four of the top improbable completions on the season, three of which came in this game:Tightest ThrowsImprob. Comp. %Weekly RankDak Prescott’s 255 yards isn’t going to convince critics to back off, he’ll need to prove that he can be consistent after his recent slump. As the old cliche goes, the devil is in the details. The details of Dak’s performance showed that he does have quality quarterbacking in him and hopefully it’s a sign of things to come. Without question Dak Prescott was beyond bold to save his most aggressive performance for his toughest matchup and it couldn’t have come at a better time. Dallas Cowboys defensive end Randy Gregory is inactive against the New York Giants after sustaining a concussion in the opener.Tight end Rico Gathers is active for Dallas on Sunday night for the first time in his three-year NFL career. The former Baylor basketball player missed all of last season after getting a concussion in training camp.Cowboys safety Xavier Woods (hamstring) and Giants linebacker Olivier Vernon (ankle) had already been ruled out for the second straight week.New York cornerback Janoris Jenkins was active and expected to play after missing practice Thursday to tend to an unspecified family emergency.Gregory had played just two of 32 games over the previous two seasons because of substance-abuse suspensions before playing in last week's 16-8 loss to Carolina. The list of inactive players:GIANTS: QB Kyle Lauletta, DB Kamrin Moore, CB Mike Jordan, LB Olivier Vernon, LB Tae Davis, C Evan Brown Dallas Cowboys Hats , OL Spencer Pulley.COWBOYS: QB Mike White, S Xavier Woods, DE Datone Jones, C Travis Frederick, G Xavier Su'a-Filo, TE Dalton Schultz, DE Randy Gregory. Below Kansas City Chiefs Womens Hoodie , you’ll find a list of players I have spotlighted for daily fantasy selections leading into the ninth week of the NFL season. I’m mostly looking for affordable options who will provide good value.I use the following criteria to try and find players — NFL Vegas totals, NFL team stats, what the fantasy gurus are saying and my GUT.Without further ado, let’s see who’s made my list of five players this week!Adrian Peterson, RB RedskinsPhoto by Patrick Smith/Getty ImagesEven though he’s 33, Adrian Peterson has put together a pretty decent season for himself and the Redskins. In Week 10, the Redskins play the Buccaneers, who have given up the sixth-most fantasy points per game to running backs. I’m looking for the Redskins to run the ball frequently on Sunday to keep the ball out of the hands of a very good Bucs offense. The quantity of carries, and the Bucs’ issues stopping the run could allow Peterson to have a great fantasy day — 33 years old or not.Andy Dalton, QB BengalsPhoto by Andy Lyons/Getty ImagesTypically, I don’t pick quarterbacks in these articles, but this week is a special occasion.Andy Dalton (or Daytime Dalton as I like to call him) has had a somewhat up-and-down season. However, I believe his Week 10 contest against the Saints could spell good things for Dalton. The over-under for the Bengals/Saints game is 54 points — the highest of the week — and the Saints give up the second-most fantasy points on average to quarterbacks (25.2).All things considered, I expect Dalton to have one of his good weeks on Sunday and he should put together a pretty nice day, while being cheaper than the likes of Mahomes, Brees, etc.Tyrell Williams, WR ChargersPhoto by Clive Rose/Getty ImagesTyrell Williams has two games with more than 100 receiving yards so far this year. He is the epitome of a boom/bust player. If you’ve been reading these articles through the season, you’ll know that I like trying to catch players before the “boom.” I think this week against the Raiders could be a boom week for Williams. The Raiders allow the seventh-most fantasy points per game to wide receivers, and Philip Rivers isn’t exactly playing bad as of late. I’m looking for Williams and the Chargers offense to run all over the Raiders, and Williams should be able to share the success.Spencer Ware, RB ChiefsPhoto by Peter Aiken/Getty ImagesNo — this isn’t my Chiefs pick of the week—we’ll cover that later. However, the Cardinals have given up the second-most fantasy points per game to running backs in the NFL. With the Chiefs-Cardinals game likely being a blowout in the Chiefs favor, the Chiefs offense may look to get Spencer Ware involved more than usual. With a large lead, Reid may want to give Hunt a breather before facing a physical LA Rams team. On top of that Womens Customized Kansas City Chiefs Jerseys , a sizable lead should force the Chiefs offense to run the ball frequently in the second half.Long story short, Ware might see a lot of looks on Sunday, he’s playing decent football right now, and he can be had for super cheap. Ware could be a very solid steal on Sunday.Benjamin Watson, TE SaintsPhoto by Scott Cunningham/Getty ImagesIf you’re looking for a cheap option at tight end, Ben Watson might provide good value on Sunday against the Bengals — even if he is older (37) than your average NFL tight end.As mentioned earlier, the Bengals-Saints contest has the highest Vegas point total (54) in Week 10. Add the fact the Bengals give up the third-most fantasy points per game to tight ends (11.1), and Drew Brees might find Ben Watson more than usual in Cincinnati.Last week, I picked the Chiefs D/ST as the pick of the week, and they had a mediocre performance allowing 21 points, forcing one turnover and two sacks. That left a bit of a bad taste in my mouth, so this week we’re going to do it all over again:Chiefs D/STPhoto by Harry How/Getty ImagesI know, I know... The Chiefs have this awesome offense, and I won’t pick any of their players. But really, I’ve been picking the Chiefs offense plenty, and I love an underdog story.I think the Chiefs defense puts together a good game against the Cardinals. Arizona has given up the second-most fantasy points per game to NFL defenses (12.3). The Cardinals offense is having troubles to say the least:31st in points scored32nd in yards28th in turnovers lost32nd in first downs30th in passing touchdowns31st in adjusted yards per pass attempt32nd in rushing yards32nd in yards per rush attemptI think you get the point. This Cardinals offense is, well, offensive. I’m looking for the Chiefs defense to take the opportunity to improve on Sunday against the Cardinals. Mike Vrabel has made it very clear he wants the Tennessee Titans to play fast and aggressive, and that's exactly how the rookie head coach operates. Now he just needs the Titans to do a better job of having their coach's back.Tennessee (3-4) blew a strong 3-1 start with a three-game skid going into this week's bye that also cost them the lead in the AFC South. The Titans are struggling with too many mistakes this franchise just can't afford with six games decided by a touchdown or less, including a pair by a single point."It's our fault you know what I'm saying?" All-Pro safety Kevin Byard said. "We're the reason we're not having a great record because we're not being consistent enough. We're not doing the right things to win these games, and we have to find ways to turn that around."Titans controlling owner Amy Adams Strunk and general manager Jon Robinson gambled in January firing Mike Mularkey after the franchise's first playoff victory in 14 seasons. They hired Vrabel, the man with 14 years as an NFL linebacker and three Super Bowl rings with New England, to make his debut as a head coach this season. With his background playing for Bill Cowher, Bill Belichick and Andy Reid to coaching for Urban Meyer and Bill O'Brien, Vrabel is trying to live up to the expectation that he would be a star once someone made him a head coach. Vrabel brought in Matt LaFleur www.chiefscheapshoponline.com , who also interviewed for the same job, as offensive coordinator to teach Marcus Mariota the quarterback's third different offense going into his fourth NFL season. The Titans have loved Vrabel's hands-on approach, picking up blocking pads to work with everyone. His enthusiasm rubbed off quickly as the Titans shook off injuries to Mariota, their two-time Pro Bowl left tackle and three-time Pro Bowl tight end Delanie Walker in the season opener to beat Houston and Jacksonville.Vrabel and Tennessee has yet to find someone to replace Walker's production as Mariota's favorite receiver the past three seasons with the tight end on injured reserve with a broken right ankle. They also lost their most veteran wide receiver when Rishard Matthews asked to be cut, unhappy at having only three catches for 11 yards. The rookie head coach has been aggressive, suggesting LaFleur mix in some wildcat plays to help out the offense with Mariota against Houston. Vrabel also decided to go for it on three different fourth downs in overtime against Philadelphia, and Mariota and the Titans came through with a 16-play drive for the winning touchdown. Then the Titans turned the ball over three times and a receiver dropped a TD pass that cost them a 13-12 loss in Buffalo. Baltimore handed the Titans the franchise's first shutout in Tennessee, and then they lost 20-19 last weekend in London after a 2-point conversion failed with 31 seconds left.Linebacker Brian Orakpo, who's still looking for his first sack this season, said they love how Vrabel attacks."That's the risk you take when you do things like that, but we love the aggressiveness," Orakpo said. "He's not playing for ties. The guy believes we should've won this game, and he went for it and we all had his back."Offense has the most room for improvement ranked 30th in total yards, points scored per game and passing yards. The young wide receiver group with Tajae Sharpe, the oldest veteran in his third season, has dropped the second-highest percentage of pa sses this season behind only Cleveland. Mariota has been at his best in the fourth quarter with a 112.6 passer rating, but he's thrown for only 1,030 yards with three TDs and five interceptions. The defense is the NFL's third-stingiest giving up 18.1 points a game. The Titans need to limit big pass plays that have been an issue in almost every game this season, and they could use a few more turnovers and sacks. The Titans face a tough stretch after their bye. They visit Dallas on Nov. 5 before hosting New England on a short week in their lone home game in November. Then it's back on the road to Indianapolis and Houston. If the Titans can execute the way Vrabel asks, that would set them up to finish the season with four of their final five at home."We have to get more out of everybody, including me," Vrabel said.Follow Teresa M. We take a position-by-position look.COLTS MEDIA OverviewOn October 21, 2018 the Indianapolis Colts will host the Oakland Raiders. In this week eight match up I sought to understand our opponent and get a better idea of how they may attack our new look Colts. The last time these two teams faced off in 2016, Derek Carr threw three touchdown passes and DeAndre Washington ran in two more while Andrew Luck threw two touchdowns of his own but was intercepted twice as well. Those interceptions are interceptions all the same, but if it makes a difference to you, the reader, Andrew Luck was playing with a torn Labrum. This match up will provide two teams in vastly different situations this time around. Hopefully the outcome will also be vastly different. Let’s figure out what we can expect in week eightOffensive Scheme Offenses led by Jon Gruden are infamous for many things, and famous for a few other things. Chiefly among those famous things are Gruden’s West Coast offense and the complexity of that system. Last week the Colts faced a Bills team that was very much trying to protect its quarterback. The passing concepts were simplified, the reads the quarterback was responsible for making were quick, easy reads. The Bills knew they were limited so they attempted to tailor their offense to the talent they have. Jon Gruden is infamous for having never been able to effectively modify his system to the talent he has to work with. During his coaching career Gruden’s starting quarterbacks are an average of 34 years old. In 2018, 34 doesn’t sound that old when some of the best quarterbacks currently playing the game are in their late 30’s but in the late 90’s and early 2000’s, 34 for nearly any quarterback was old. Gruden has consistently ousted young Womens Customized Indianapolis Colts Jerseys , promising passers and replaced them with quarterbacks in their mid 30’s. He’s had some success doing this in his career. While Derek Carr isn’t the next coming of Peyton Manning, it would be foolish to get rid of him — but Gruden seems to be unwilling to work with the young passer to mold an offense around him and it’s becoming evident. Spider 2 Y Banana:Gruden breaks down this play here:Now, there are differences given the formation and one of the routes run, but make no mistake, this was 90% the same as the play he draws up for Marcus Mariota. Carr had one read and it was to throw this ball to the receiver who went in motion. The other routes on this play were a diversion but it’s impossible to know that in the moment. Spider 2 Y Banana isn’t just a funny Gruden meme, it’s really Gruden’s favorite play and he has some very interesting ways to work this high-low passing concept into his game plan.4-Verts:Gruden is a West Coast offense guy at his core but so far he’s shown a diverse offense in his return to the sideline. He will often work in Air Raid concepts and even though 4-verts isn’t an Air Raid invention, this does show his willingness to push the ball down the field and take shots when he feels the time is right. I also noticed many more wide receiver screens than I expected from a Gruden team. You’ve probably seen this play:Well, maybe you haven’t seen this play but you’ve seen plays similar from multiple teams this season. Yes, Gruden is stealing plays and that’s okay, because it’s football. Everyone steals from everyone. With that said it’s interesting enough to note, if you’ve seen an interesting, successful play design there’s a very real chance Jon Gruden is trying to figure out how to use it for the Raiders. This play would have been difficult for the Dolphins to defend, but had they stayed in their assigned gaps, they would have had a real shot to make a stop for a short gain. I wasn’t in the room when Gruden drew this one up but I believe the receiver this ball was thrown to was the first option on this play. I believe that because all of the other routes are working to ensure he gets open. The back coming out on his route makes the outside linebacker on his side of the field position himself wide, to prevent the back from having an advantage in the flat. On the backside both receivers run five yard ins and are designed to pull the linebackers up. The tight end runs a post away from everyone. All of these routes are working together to create a throwing lane and an open receiver. Had the defense not reacted how they hoped, Carr would have worked through his reads and there were enough options available, he could have still created positive yards. This is a well designed play. Throwing lanes can be created many ways:Once again, Gruden tried to create a throwing lane by making linebackers step up instead of back into coverage with play action. The idea is the same, a receiver goes deep to stretch the deep defenders over the top and the linebackers look to stop the run and Jordy Nelson is open because of it. Jon Gruden’s offense isn’t a bad one. There are a lot of well designed plays but there seems to be a disconnect. I chose a lot of really successful plays against a defense that is similar to the one the Colts run. I didn’t pick a lot of mistakes because that’s what the next few sections of this article are for. Quarterback: Derek Carr is on pace to throw 22 interceptions this year. He’s never thrown more than 13 in any season in his five year career. The craziest part of that stat; he’s completing nearly 72% of his passes which is around 8% higher than his next best season. So what’s wrong with Derek Carr? That’s a complicated answer. To start, his protection has been bad. It’s tough for any quarterback to play well behind a porous line and Carr is no exception to that rule. The second part of “what’s wrong with Carr” is at best, my opinion. It is my opinion that Jon Gruden is coaching Carr into the ground. Carr is completing more than 70%—that’s insane. That’s also a sign that Gruden is dialing up a lot of quick www.coltscheapshop.com , short throws. During his career Carr hasn’t turned the ball over, why is he doing it now? In my opinion it’s because he’s struggling to understand what to do with what he’s seeing. If a quarterback understands how to read a defense and progress through his reads, traits Carr has previously shown, then he just needs to understand where to go with the ball given what he’s seeing. Derek Carr isn’t sure where he needs to go with the ball given Gruden’s system. If you combine that with shaky line play and you get a lot of plays like this:And on occasion if everything works out just like Gruden planned it:Ultimately this isn’t an issue that’s going to get fixed before Sunday’s kick off. I don’t believe this is Derek Carr’s fault and I think whatever team Carr is playing for next season is getting a good quarterback as long as his next coach is willing to work with Carr and develop a system for him. Hopefully whatever mid-30’s quarterback Gruden brings in next season has more luck. Running Back:We all know Marshawn Lynch, but he landed on injured reserve earlier in the week. In his place Doug Martin, Jalen Richard and DeAndre Washington will look to fill in. Doug Martin looks to be the starter and at times has looked like the Doug Martin of old:As of right now, the Raiders don’t have any backs on the roster averaging more than 3.7 yards per carry. Losing Lynch hurts this backfield as no one is sure what the Raiders have in Martin. Before off field issues creeped in on his career, Martin looked like a long-term option for the Bucs. Instead he’s trying to resurrect a promising career and I’m not sure any team needs to be worried about the Raiders rushing attack. Pass Catchers: I would talk a lot about Amari Cooper but he plays for the Cowboys. Tight End, Jared Cook is leading the team with 32 receptions for 400 yards. Normally I talk about running backs above, but Jalen Richard is second on the team with 31 catches, he may line up in the backfield but he’s a major pass catching option for the Raiders. Jordy Nelson, Martavis Bryant and Seth Roberts will all see increased time with Cooper elsewhere. Nelson has been their most consistent downfield option which is odd considering he’s 33 years old. Bryant is a deep threat but with only 14 catches and no touchdowns Matt Eberflus isn’t losing any sleep. Offensive Line: The starters from left to right: Kolton Miller, Jon Feliciano, Rodney Hudson, Gabe Jackson and Brandon Parker. Normally I spend a lot of time breaking down each of the five starters, instead I just want to talk about Miller and Parker. I know I’m not some sort of football savant. I know I don’t know all there is to know about the game or player evaluation. During the events that lead up to the draft I don’t have access to player interviews with the teams, I don’t know what guys are like mentally or emotionally. There’s just a lot I don’t know. With that said, I believed that Kolton Miller was at best a second round pick that would need a lot of time to develop and I believed that Parker was a good athlete who really needed to learn to play the game at an NFL level. I believed he was a day three pick. Instead the Raiders took Miller 15th overall and they selected Parker with the first pick in the 3rd round. The Colts are starting two rookies on their offensive line. Think about how good the Colts line has looked protecting Andrew Luck, then watch the video below and take a minute to say a few nice things out loud about Chris Ballard and his ability to evaluate offensive line play. Kemoko Turay could have a big day and I can’t wait. What to Expect from the Colts Defense: I believe we can expect more of the same. If anything we’re going to see more stunting to try to confuse and defeat what is a bad offensive line. I believe we’re going to see some schemed open receivers and as long as the Colts defensive backs keep the play in front of them and make solid tackles they’re going to be able to look good against this overly complex, unexecutable offense.
Dress rehearsal game notes: Bears vs. Chiefs Let’s get this out of the way right off the bat: The main talking point for this game is Matt Nagy’s decision to rest his starters based on a good week of practice.Man Youth Akiem Hicks Jersey , we talkin’ ‘bout practice. We’ve heard about a “good week of practice” before and it meant diddly. I will say though, in this case, I don’t mind the decision right now.The fact is, I don’t think we can judge this decision until September 9th. If the Bears come out flat and the offense is out-of-sync and while defense looks messed up, then this decision looks idiotic. It could be akin to a team that rests their starters in Week 17 and then has a first-round playoff bye. There will be talk of rust, of “sleepwalking”.However, we won’t know until Sunday Night against the Packers in Week 1 so there’s not much use to go after this until then.If the Bears come out sharp, we won’t look back. If the team looks lethargic and the Packers jump out to a big lead and cruise, it will be bad. We’ll see. Until then, it’s just talk. Now, onto the actual game:Speaking of resting starters, Kevin White and Taylor Gabriel were in on the first drive. These guys need reps so I am okay with this. This is smart management of the players. Gabriel hasn’t practiced much and White needs snaps. For the talk about Taquan Mizzell and Ryan Nall, fans shouldn’t sleep on Benny Cunningham. He’s not a sexy player, but he can work in an offense and be solid. His skills were on display on the first drive, making a man miss after catching a check down pass in the flat and then breaking a tackle, following his blocks and finding pay dirt. Cunningham is a great third back.Tyreek Hill’s speed is no match for the second string, but Isaiah Irving didn’t keep contain well. The second-string defensive line seemed to get some good disruption through the Kansas City starting offensive line. They didn’t get home, but Patrick Mahomes had to scramble and move outside the pocket a couple of times. Not covering Kareem Hunt seems like a bad idea.Joel Iyiegbuniwe wants to be a doctor, which is admirable and interesting. I hope he has to delay medical school for six or seven years while he plays for the Bears.Ben Braunecker getting some reps with the No. 2’s is encouraging. The depth chart at tight end is interesting. Is there a spot for Braunecker and Daniel Brown behind the top three?A good amount of empty seats at Soldier Field. I wonder how many stayed in the parking lot and how many skipped it all together when word leaked the starters weren’t playing? Can’t tell if it’s a high snap, and can’t tell if Daniel is simply just that short on a fourth down sneak.Kevin White’s first touchdown! That should build some confidence for him, as he beat Orlando Scandrick. Nice moment. Say what you want about the guy, but looking at the way his teammates reacted and the guys that were patting him on the sideline http://www.bearsauthorizedshops.com/aut … ong-jersey , it’s clear he’s liked. With the help of some Kansas City penalties, two decent scoring drives by the No. 2’s isn’t a bad way to start the dress rehearsal.Deon Bush falls victim to the Soldier Field turf monster, but it looked like Travis Kelce already had a step or two on him.Mahomes’s arm reminds me of Jay Cutler’s. Nick Williams breaks through the line but over pursues.Good blitz with Nick Kwiatkowski and Irving getting in Mahomes’s face, causing him to get outside and throw it away. I get that these guys are trying to make the team, but wouldn’t it make more sense to take the knee with a kick that’s two yards from the back of the endzone? Isn’t that the smarter play?Javon Wims sighting: Interesting he is getting worked in with Marlon Brown, among others. Two plays later, Wims beats his man and gets downfield for 53 yards. That’s got to help his case a little bit.Mizzell makes a nice adjustment on a high pass to get a first down.Wims with a nice route and toe-tap for the touchdown. If he can impress Bears special teams coordinator Chris Tabor on special teams, he has a shot.Remember when after the Hall of Fame Game, I said Daniel was not impressive? Well uh, he might be a better No. 2 than I originally gave him credit for. Maybe Kansas City is just playing ultra conservative, but this is how an experienced No. 2 should look against schemes like that.Irving is all over the field and has made some plays, that opening play not withstanding. Not going to lie, Cunningham is solidifying the third running back spot. The backup offensive line has been good and solid overall. I like what I have seen.Bad snap on the quarterback sneak and a disaster. Of course, one item after I compliment the line.Overall a clean game for Chicago, penalty-wise. Good call on the Daniel run down the sideline. No dumb helmet rule flags yet, a sign that teams are adjusting? (written with three minutes left). That roughing the passer was the new emphasis on “driving the QB into the ground,” despite what the commentators said.Color commentator Jim Miller sites the improved sack numbers against the Bears offense this preseason, this after a sack was negated by a penalty.Cody Parkey nails a 48-yard field goal. There’s a positive step. The end of half sequence was interesting. I like Nagy not squatting on a time out, but with less than 10 seconds left, I’m not sure what he was going for? I wonder if he wanted Tabor to go with a trick punt return to simulate a desperation situation? In any event, I’m not upset about it.HALFTIME: The slow cooker chicken wings recipe I made were quite good. (Recipe link, for interested parties)Cre’Von LeBlanc is getting picked on Danny Trevathan Jersey , but whoever is matched up on Tyreek Hill will be, especially when its back ups. Nick Williams hasn’t been talked about a ton this preseason, but he’s having a nice game.Speaking of, I think the defensive line could be a strength of this Bears team. Of course it starts with Akiem Hicks, but with Roy Robertston-Harris, Eddie Goldman, Jonathan Bullard, Williams and Blilal Nichols, there’s great depth. Maybe no other superstars, yet I think this is a good rotational group whose advantage will be in guys being able to be fresh more than out-and-out frontline superstar power.Irving earned that sack, working against Eric Fisher and was still engaged with him there when he finally finished the play and took Mahomes down.Robertson-Harris draws a holding penalty from Fisher one player later. Fisher isn’t an elite tackle, but these are the plays I was talking about above.Great stand with the No. 2’s against KC’s No. 1’s. Bullard gets Mahomes uncomfortable, the reinforcements come in, and Mahomes throws it away. Great stop.Sherrick McManis remains elite at special teams. Don’t forget about him.Tabor isn’t acting like this is a meaningless game on the sideline. I think he could become a fan favorite if his unit shows up well this year.Play-by-play Adam Amin is eating some great-looking barbecue fries. Personally, I liked Amin for the preseason booth.Giving James Daniels an entire game on offensive line at two positions will give plenty of film for coaches to evaluate. Good punt, but then poor tackling gives the Chiefs nice field position after a 36-yard return.Kylie Fitts can’t finish the tackle right in the backfield, but keeps pursuing and just gets Chase Litton inside the pocket. Nice play from the rookie.I side with my colleague above. Not sure why people are so high on Mizzell.Should I go ahead and buy my No. 83 Wims jersey? That sideline play to Wims should also be noted as a good throw for Tyler Bray, who hasn’t impressed me much otherwise.Bradley Sowell doesn’t have a ton of fans, I know. But he’s an experienced swing tackle and if he’s injured, that is a huge depth hit for Chicago.Talk about pre-snap movement. Garrett Johnson ran about 50 yards on a third down motion to tip Kansas City’s man-to-man defense.Nall shows good patience on his runs, waiting for his blockers and the hole to develop and some good cutting ability. I think he’s a practice squad candidate.55-yard touchdown, oh right Authentic Cody Whitehair Jersey , these are the third stringers. Poor tackling across the board.Kniles Davis, who has struck me as slow since he got to Chicago, had a nice little spin move to get some yards. Showing up in the fourth quarter of a preseason game tells me everything I need to know about his roster chances. That is likely it for pretty any important part of the depth chart until September 9th at Lambeau Field. A quality showing by the depth of the Bears agains the Chiefs.Do the Bears and 49ers have a rivalry in the making? Ah, the Bears and 49ers. Not at all geographically linked, but what seems like one of the NFL’s next great budding rivalries. Without even taking into account that 2018 will mark the fifth-straight year Chicago and San Francisco meet, you also have the Ryan Pace and John Lynch swindling factor, as well as the juxtaposition of proposed franchise quarterbacks in Mitchell Trubisky and Jimmy Garoppolo. Seeing as how both franchises have been mired in obscurity recently, for this to actually become a valuable NFL rivalry there needs to be more fun and competitive play on the field. Provided Trubisky and Garoppolo continue to grow, this matchup looks like it could soon be that gift that keeps on giving. Our interview has been lightly edited for clarity. 1st and 10 It seems like this is the cliff Vance Joseph has been coaching towards all season. Win this and he buys himself some time, lose and Elway https://www.broncosfanstore.com/Andy-Janovich-Jersey has 10 days to reshuffle the staff for the rest of the season. Broncos fans know the stakes, but what do things look like for Arizona? I read a couple of posts that suggested Steve Wilks and company have fallen far short of expectations. What’s at stake in this one?It is likely that Mike McCoy is gone come Friday after the Broncos and Cardinals game no matter what happens, barring an offensive explosion that we have not seen this season. The Cardinals are one of the worst teams offensively in the NFL, in nearly every statistical category. Moreover, the hiring did not make a lick of sense from the beginning. Look at what Steve Wilks said when we he was hired. Now, let’s take a little walk down the memory lane of Mike McCoy offenses, where we see that he has had a single rushing offense in the top 16 in the NFL once as an offensive coordinator or head coach, that was in 2011 with the Broncos.Wilks will get the year, if things don’t turn around though, he may not get much more.2nd and 6One thing that the Cardinals seem to have that Denver definitely lacks is a long term answer at quarterback. While the numbers haven’t been all that pretty yet, when I watch the tape Josh Rosen shows all the promising signs you hope to see when watching a young signal caller. How do Arizona fans feel about him? The numbers don’t do Rosen justice. The rookie looks like the real deal. The only thing Cardinals fans seem to be super excited about right now is the fact that the Cardinals have Josh Rosen. Rosen looks like the real deal Matt Paradis Color Rush Jersey , despite getting little help from his offensive line, who is the worst in the NFL.Add the fact that the Cardinals offense is archaic, its wide receivers have not been good, even future Hall of Famer Larry Fitzgerald. Also, David Johnson looks nothing like David Johnson. The Cardinals offense has done nothing to help Josh Rosen, so when you look at his raw numbers, they’re not exactly impressive, but they are not nearly as bad as they look.3rd and 11There was rampant speculation that Patrick Peterson is on the block. Back when the Broncos were 2-0 there was hope Denver would make a deal for him. It seems unlikely now, obviously but what are the odds Steve Keim deals his franchise cornerback? What do you think Arizona would want in return?I would be shocked and disappointed if the Cardinals moved Patrick Peterson, who is having a fantastic season, or Chandler Jones, who has been on fire the last two weeks.Chandler Jones (55) already has 15.5 pressures on the year. It’s crucial Bolles holds up against him.If the Cardinals even began to fake talk about it Carlos Henderson Jersey , they would have to get a massive return because both Peterson and Jones are in their primes, on really good contracts for their play and play the most premium of positions. If you are selling, it better be for absurd returns, like multiple day one and two picks, or a young offensive lineman (again, worst OL in the NFL) plus an early pick.I don’t see it happening, if it does, what little fandom left may completely mutiny.4th and 4What do you think the keys to the game are for Arizona this Thursday? Are the Broncos any good at running the football? No matter the answer, right now it does not matter, because even if you are the worst running team in the NFL like the Minnesota Vikings, you should still run all over this Cardinals defense. If the Broncos can get Lindsay and Freeman past the first level of the Cardinals defense it should be a long night for Arizona. The Cardinals have to find a way to stop the run on defense and force a struggling Case Keenum to beat them. If it doesn’t happen, then they need to find an offense that hasn’t been there for six games so far in 2018.David Johnson has to get back to being the best running back in the NFL https://www.broncosfanstore.com/Ronald-Leary-Jersey , take some of the pressure off of Rosen and more importantly, take pressure off Mike “Up the Middle” McCoy.It is unlikely to happen, but who knows this NFL season.I will say: Broncos 21, Cardinals 16. Ratings continue to bounce back for the NFL with a huge jump coming from Monday Night Football in the thrilling (for everyone but us) comeback win by Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs at Broncos Stadium at Mile High against the Denver Broncos. The game snagged a 9.1 rating, which was the best Monday night number since Week 3 of the 2017 season. Despite a low scoring affair through the first half, the game really didn’t lack in excitement. Neither team disappointed (outside of us) in terms of drama. After Mahomes led the Chiefs to two fourth quarter touchdowns to take the lead with less than two minutes left, Case Keenum led his own comeback attempt that came up just short. It’s the kind of game non-Broncos fans talk about the next day. So will the rest of the 1968 New York Jets http://www.ramsauthorizedshops.com/auth … ker-jersey , celebrating the 50th anniversary of the squad that won the franchise's only Super Bowl.Nostalgia will be all around MetLife Stadium on Sunday, with rookie Sam Darnold and this year's Jets team trying to set a much more modest goal against the Indianapolis Colts — not coincidentally, the franchise New York beat for that 1969 title while it was in Baltimore.Coming off an impressive 34-16 victory over Denver last Sunday and with the likes of Joe Namath and Don Maynard watching, New York will look to win consecutive games for the first time since taking three straight in Weeks 3-5 last season — over a year ago."We've got a good team," Darnold said. "It's just about putting together the pieces. Obviously, we put some together this past Sunday. We've just got to build off of it and, for me personally, I've just got to stay consistent."The Jets (2-3) have struggled with that . They opened the season with a 48-17 romp at Denver and then had clunkers against Miami, Cleveland and Jacksonville before getting back in the win column last weekend."We have to grow up and find a way to string games together and get on winning streaks," left tackle Kelvin Beachum said, "instead of losing streaks."That's what Andrew Luck and the struggling Colts (1-4) will be looking to stop when they take the field.Indianapolis has lost three in a row, is missing some key players such as wide receiver T.Y. Hilton and tight end Jack Doyle to injuries, and could see its season really spiral with another defeat. The Colts, however, aren't thinking about that right now."I love that this team has no quit," tight end Eric Ebron said. "I love the story that we'll have and I say that because we're very young, we're all beat up, and what people don't tend to realize is that you don't stay beat up forever. You get healthy, you get guys back and then you start to establish a dominance."The Jets just want to prevent that turnaround from starting Sunday."We know our defense has their hands full, but it's also going to be a dogfight for us too, because they have a great defense Lamarcus Joyner Jersey ," Darnold said. "We're really looking forward to the challenge, though, knowing how great of a quarterback Andrew is."Here are other things to know as the Colts and Jets square off:BIG DEALThis will mark the first time the teams face each other since swinging their stunning trade in March that changed the top of the NFL draft. The Jets acquired the No. 3 overall pick from the Colts to move up to take Darnold, giving them the franchise-type quarterback they have been searching for .New York sent Indianapolis the No. 6 selection, which the Colts used to pick current starting left guard Quenton Nelson. The Jets also shipped two second-round picks this year — one with which Indianapolis took starting right guard Braden Smith; the other was used in a trade — along with a second-rounder next year.FLYING CROWELLJets running back Isaiah Crowell leads the AFC with 390 yards rushing, and ranks third in the NFL behind only Dallas' Ezekiel Elliott (480) and Rams' Todd Gurley (415).Crowell soared up the list against Denver last Sunday when he set a franchise record with 219 yards rushing on just 15 carries. It also put the controversy from the previous weeks far behind him after he was fined $13,369 by the NFL and scolded by coach Todd Bowles for wiping his rear end with the football after scoring a touchdown at Cleveland in Week 3.LOTS OF LUCKLuck has thrown 121 passes in his last two games and leads the league with 245 attempts through five games .Not bad for a guy who missed all last season with a shoulder injury, but the Colts might not want to keep their franchise QB back there throwing so much. After all, he's on pace to throw 784 times this season, which would shatter Matthew Stafford's single-season record of 727 for Detroit in 2012.Colts coach Frank Reich attributes the high number to his team falling behind early in games, causing Luck and the offense to play catch-up through the air.SLAUSON DONEColts right guard Matt Slauson got his NFL start with the Jets in 2009, but this weekend's reunion plan has changed because of a back injury.Slauson landed on season-ending injured reserve earlier this week after doctors diagnosed him with two broken vertebrae. Without Slauson, Smith could make his second straight start — this time at his more natural position. The rookie started last week at right tackle.DEFENSIVE STRIDESIndianapolis' defense has made steady a progression under first-year coordinator Matt Eberflus. While the Colts are tied for third in the league with 17 sacks and have moved out of the bottom quadrant in yards allowed, they're No. 23 in total defense.Individually, there are more promising signs.Rookie linebacker Darius Leonard leads the league with 54 tackles, even after missing last week's game with a hamstring injury. Defensive end Margus Hunt leads the NFL with nine tackles for loss.AP Sports Writer Michael Marot contributed. The Los Angeles Chargers haven't needed to rely too much on their run game during their first two games, but that might change on Sunday against the unbeaten Rams. The Chargers (1-1) have called runs on 37.5 percent of their plays the first two weeks, which is the fifth-lowest percentage in the AFC. Despite that, they are averaging 116 yards, which is above the league average of 104 yards. In other words, Melvin Gordon and Austin Ekeler aren't getting a lot of carries Authentic Rodger Saffold Jersey , but they are making the most of their plays."They've been very effective," offensive coordinator Ken Whisenhunt said. "It's been a tremendous help for us because it opens up other things like play action."Gordon has only 24 carries, which is his lowest total for the first two games in his four-year career, but he is tied for the team lead in receptions with 15. Gordon had the second three-touchdown game of his career in last week's 31-20 win at Buffalo, with two TDs coming on catches. He's also gained over 100 yards from scrimmage in six of his last eight games dating to last season. While the quarterback matchup between the Chargers' Philip Rivers and the Rams' Jared Goff is attracting plenty of attention, the running back battle between Gordon and Todd Gurley is tantalizing as well. Both were drafted in the first round in 2015, with Gurley having the advantage so far. He led the league in yards from scrimmage last season with 2,093 while Gordon was fifth (1,581)."We compete. It's not like we hate each other. We both want to prove we are the best back and it happens that we compete in the same city," Gordon said.Ekeler had a career-high 77 yards on 11 carries in last week's win at Buffalo. Three of his longest carries came on runs off the left side.Whisenhunt continues to find different ways to use the second-year back. In the opener against Kansas City, Ekeler caught a 13-yard touchdown while last week he was getting most of the carries."They are starting to use both of us in different ways and it has been working," Ekeler said. "It's going to be important again this week because they have a real solid front five. If we can get the run game going early that can help us in play action."The Chargers have a lot of experience facing a Wade Phillips defense. They faced Phillips twice a year when he was with Denver in 2015-16.The Rams have one of the best interior pass rushes in the league with Ndamukong Suh and Aaron Donald at the tackles. They also have gone 12 straight games without allowing a 100-yard rusher. One of the best matchups could be center Mike Pouncey going up against Suh. The two went up against each other often during practices in Miami the past three seasons."That's going to make things a lot easier for me and a lot of other guys," Gordon said of Pouncey. "You have a bully like that up front that ain't scared to back down, that gets them other guys going."Pouncey, who is in his first season in Los Angeles after seven seasons in Miami, said getting the run game going early is going to be vitally important this week."Any time you can run the ball it keeps us on schedule," he said. "We have been over 100 yards in each game, which is something to build off of."Follow Joe Reedy at joereedy

His backup, Jordan Devey, was placed on injured reserve earlier this week with a torn pectoralis major. That leaves the Chiefs with a vacancy at the starting center position as the team prepares to face the Denver Broncos this Sunday at Arrowhead Stadium. It certainly isn’t the best week for offensive line injuries with six-time All-Pro linebacker Von Miller coming to town.Asked about the position on Wednesday, Chiefs head coach Andy Reid was not ready to name a starter.“Brett (Veach) has done a good job of bringing guys in,” Reid said. “Austin (Reiter) is here and he has experience, so he can step in if needed, and Jeff Allen can play if needed. Andy (Heck) does a great job of rotating those guys during practice, now and OTAs, and then during training camp. Everyone can kind of work into all the positions. We don’t get concerned about that Youth Justin Houston Jersey , we just try to move forward. If you can go then you can go, if you can’t you can’t, and we move on.”Tim Fuller-USA TODAY SportsReiter, who played center in college, signed on with the Chiefs in early September. He started one game at center for the Cleveland Browns back in 2016. Allen offers the versatility to play center but has never started there in 62 career NFL starts, according to Pro Football Reference. Offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy offered little clarity when asked on Thursday morning.“We’re just working through the process,” Bieniemy said. “Like I’ve said, we’ve rolled a number of guys there. Hell, you may even see me play center. Coach (Andy) Heck has done a good job with those guys. He’s coached them all up, so whoever’s up, that guy will be ready to play.”Denny Medley-USA TODAY SportsThe first of two unmentioned candidates to fill in at center are Cameron Erving, who did so for the Chiefs while Morse was out due to a foot injury this offseason. He also started 12 games at center for the Cleveland Browns back in 2016. Erving has been the Chiefs’ starting left guard every game this season. The second unmentioned candidate is Jimmy Murray http://www.thechiefsfootballauthentic.c … -authentic , who was promoted to the 53-man roster from the practice squad on Tuesday with Devey heading to injured reserve. Murray is a 6-foot-5, 305-pound undrafted free agent who played center at Holy Cross.“He’s been working real hard all the way through training camp,” offensive line coach Andy Heck said of Murray. “He’s a smart guy, he’s athletic, and he works hard, so we love that. He’s got his nose to the grindstone. Again, in my opinion, you can’t have enough people on your roster that can snap the football. He’s one of those guys that can do that, and he’s been working really well. I think we got a good one there.”MY PREDICTION: Reid often preaches starting the five best players along the offensive line, and my best guess would be that he leans on experience in this case. Erving has worked with Mahomes and has played the most NFL games at the position, so I bet he slides over from left guard. Andrew Wylie either stays at right guard, where he started last game http://www.thechiefsfootballauthentic.c … -authentic , or slides over to left guard, where he worked out in camp. In either vacant guard spot—whether it be left or right, that’s where I see Allen coming in.My best prediction at the starters, Sunday? Eric Fisher, Andrew Wylie, Cameron Erving, Jeff Allen, Mitch Schwartz (L-R)
Jeremy Jeffress pounded his glove with his right hand and Erik Kratz pumped his right arm in jubilation.Forget about the wild-card standings. The Milwaukee Brewers http://www.greenbaypackersteamonline.co … aga-jersey are fighting for the NL Central title.Lorenzo Cain had four hits, Mike Moustakas scored on Carl Edwards Jr.'s wild pitch in the sixth inning and the Brewers beat the Chicago Cubs 3-2 on Monday night to move within one game of the division leaders."That's a great team over there. They're not going to go away," Moustakas said. "They're not going to just give it up, so we've got to go out there every single day, keep fighting, keep grinding and go to win a ballgame each and every night."Orlando Arcia and Jonathan Schoop each drove in a run as Milwaukee (83-62) won for the seventh time in eight games. It's the closest the Brewers have been to the division lead since they trailed the Cubs by a game on Aug. 5.Milwaukee also battled Chicago for the NL Central title last season, but the Cubs pulled away down the stretch and the Brewers missed the playoffs. It looks as if the returning Brewers learned from what happened in 2017."I think being in the moment a year later helps these guys," manager Craig Counsell said. "You know how you feel because you feel different in these moments."Wade Miley (4-2) pitched five effective innings before Corbin Burnes, Josh Hader and Jeffress closed it out for wild card-leading Milwaukee. Burnes worked a scoreless sixth, Hader struck out six straight batters and Jeffress got three outs for his 11th save.Back home after a soggy weekend in Washington, Chicago (83-60) lost for the fifth time in seven games. Ben Zobrist had two of the Cubs' five hits, and Kris Bryant drove in a run."We've just not been making that kind of hard contact that we're capable of," manager Joe Maddon said. "So more than anything, that was tonight. You can dice it up any way you want, but just to score two runs again — we have to be more offensively."The game was tied at 2 when Maddon and a trainer came out to check on Jon Lester after the left-hander retired the first two batters in the sixth. Lester (15-6) stayed in the game after a short conversation, and the Brewers pounced.Moustakas singled and Kratz doubled to right, putting runners on second and third. Lester then departed with lower back tightness, and Moustakas scampered home when Edwards missed badly on his first pitch to Arcia .Moustakas said third base coach Ed Sedar told him to be on the lookout for a wild pitch."It happened and I was able to get down there and ended up scoring," Moustakas said, "so it worked out pretty well for us."Lester allowed eight hits, struck out seven and walked two in his first loss since Aug. 11. As the Packers head into the latter half of their 2018 schedule, we thought it would be worthwhile to take a step back and identify some of the best performers of the season so far. Who are your picks? Let us know in the comments.Jon MeerdinkOffensive MVP: Davante AdamsDefensive MVP: Kenny ClarkRookie of the Year: Jaire AlexanderMost Improved Player: Kyler FackrellComments: Of course Aaron Rodgers is technically more valuable http://www.greenbaypackersteamonline.co … ari-jersey , but how the Patriots played Davante Adams Sunday says a lot about where he fits in the Packers’ offense. He’s their most important non-Rodgers cog and the one the offense could least afford to lose right now.On defense, Kenny Clark is the engine that makes everyone else go. His work in the middle makes Mike Daniels better and would really help the edge rush if the Packers had anyone to play the position.Kyler Fackrell is my most improved player in part because he’s been passable this year and in part because Jermaine Whitehead was my first choice and he got cut. Evan “Tex” WesternOffensive MVP: David BakhtiariDefensive MVP: Kenny ClarkRookie of the Year: Jaire AlexanderMost Improved Player: Kyler FackrellIt was a nail-biter for me deciding on OMVP, but I’m going with Bakhtiari over Adams. Fundamentally, I believe that Bakhtiari is the best left tackle in football, and there are plenty of stats that back that up. I love me some Tae, but he’s not the best wideout in the NFL. Plus, without Bakhtiari keeping Aaron Rodgers’ blind side protected, there probably isn’t enough time for Rodgers to hit Adams on some of the deep balls that he has hauled in.On defense, Clark is my clear-cut winner. While Mike Daniels is doing great work next to him as well, Clark is absolutely playing at an All-Pro level and he’s doing it on a much higher workload — 433 snaps (82% of the team’s total) to 342 (65%). It’s probably not fair to bring sacks into the equation for these two players, either, but it is notable that Clark is tied for the team lead with Blake Martinez and Kyler Fackrell. My pick for top rookie is based on the eye test regarding how the Packers look with and without him in the lineup. Alexander has brought some swagger and an exceptional skill set to the secondary. While Marquez Valdes-Scantling is a terrific story and has made a series of big plays, Alexander has his share as well and his attitude seems to rub off on the defense as a whole. The final category was the toughest for me, but I have to agree with Jon and go with Fackrell. Seeing him beat Andrew Whitworth (one of the other candidates for the top LT in the league) on a speed rush for a sack two weeks ago was honestly a bit shocking. In past years, he often looked like he didn’t even belong on a football field; this year, he hasn’t made any particularly glaring mistakes and certainly looks deserving of the 20 snaps per game or so that he has been receiving.Mike ViethOffensive MVP: David BakhtiariDefensive MVP: Mike DanielsRookie of the Year: Marquez Valdes-ScantlingMost Improved: Reggie GilbertComments: The offense has been extremely disappointing and underwhelming this season. From Aaron Rodgers on down, I don’t think most players are playing their best and are lacking in some way this season. However, there are a few exceptions. First, is my Offensive MVP, David Bakhtiari. This was tough between Bakhtiari and Davante Adams but I’m giving some love to the offensive line here. My Defensive MVP goes to the anchor of the defensive line, Mike Daniels. There is an expected argument picking Daniels over someone like Kenny Clark or Blake Martinez but what Daniels is doing is making those players better. Daniels doesn’t come up much on the stat sheet this year but that’s because he is constantly fighting double teams all game long. The few times teams leave him one-on-one http://www.greenbaypackersteamonline.co … ams-jersey , he dominates and gets a sack or tackle. With these double teams, it is making teams pay less attention to Clark and Martinez and they are cleaning up plays while Daniels does all the dirty work. Don’t take that as a knock on Clark or Martinez. They are very good players and, with Daniels, will be a force for years to come in the middle of the defense but right now Daniels taking the focus of offensive lines is making Clark show his potential and giving the clear lanes for Martinez to make a tackle or blitz. Shawn WagnerOffensive MVP: Davante AdamsDefensive MVP: Kenny ClarkRookie of the Year: Jaire AlexanderMost Improved Player: Marquez Valdes-ScantlingComments: Jon and I almost matched completely on our selections and Kyler Fackrell has been as improved as any player on the roster. But over the last few weeks, I give my selection for that award to MVS, who has been noticeably gaining confidence by the week and has made an incredible year-one adjustment in his route-running and reliability since he arrived in Green Bay after the draft. He may have had the most raw talent of any Packer wide receiver drafted this year, but I anticipated that he would take the longest to develop. I couldn’t be more wrong as MVS is emerging as the vertical threat Green Bay hasn’t had in a long time and earning Aaron Rodgers’ trust with regularity. Still, my best rookie award goes to Alexander. The defense is exponentially better when he is on the field versus injured and his ability to become a true shutdown corner in this league was showcased in Los Angeles. Alexander’s swagger from day one was something rarely seen from Packer defenders, especially in the secondary, and it will rub off on his teammates in time (if it hasn’t already). Even Mike McCarthy acknowledged Alexander as the team’s top cover man.As far as MVPs on each side of the ball, Adams has been outstanding at creating after the catch and been an instrumental part of the Packers’ comeback efforts this season. Without Jordy Nelson and a healthy Randall Cobb for a majority of the season, Adams has blossomed since his and probably should get the ball even more than he does now. Likewise, Clark has continued his ascension as a Pro Bowl-caliber defensive lineman and become as much a threat in the pass rush as against the run. As far as interior defenders go, Clark is among the best in the NFC and has helped create impressive stat lines for his teammates, especially Blake Martinez. Clark has only stepped up his game in Muhammad Wilkerson’s absence and is deserving of the team’s defensive MVP honors.Wendi HansenOffensive MVP: David BakhtiariDefensive MVP: Kenny ClarkRookie of the Year: Marquez Valdes-ScantlingMost Improved Player: Reggie GilbertI agree with a lot of the APC writers in saying that the Packers’ offense this year has been nothing to write home about. They just seem “off” in a lot of ways, a factor that has come into play in a lot of the games thus far. That being said, there are a few standouts in my mind, Bakhtiari in particular. His pass and run blocking game continues to get stronger and he has proven time and time again that he can get the job done. On the defensive side of things, Clark is the bomb.com. His energy on the field is contagious, he’s a force going up against any opponent’s offense and has done this all while stepping in for Wilkerson. A man worthy of an MVP in my mind for sure. Rookie of the Year has to go to my man MVS. It has been so damn fun to watch his transformation so far this season. His chemistry with Rodgers reminds me a lot like that of, I’m gonna say it Authentic JK Scott Jersey , Rodgers and Nelson. He’s smart and knows how to handle the ball, something that will only continue to develop as his confidence grows. Lastly, the Most Improved Player award goes to Gilbert. After a lot of time spent on the practice squad, he found his footing fast and has quickly learned Pettine’s defense. He reminds me a lot of Matthews back in the day, and I wouldn’t be surprised if he gets more reps moving forward. Bob FitchOffensive MVP: Davante AdamsDefensive MVP: Kenny ClarkRookie of the Year: Jaire AlexanderMost Improved Player: Kyler FackrellDavante has stepped up his game this year, and he’s been doing so every year he’s been in the league. It’s not easy to continually improve at the rate Adams is doing, but it’s clear he’s a #1 receiver and demands attention from defenses.I wanted to give this award to Bakhtiari, because I love #69 and offensive line play in general, but Adams’ jump from year to year gave him the edge.Bakh was already a top 5 OT, now he’s top 3.Defensively, Kenny Clark has ascended to the level many expected this year.It honestly surprised me that he’s second on the team in total tackles and tied for first in sacks (with Blake Martinez and Kyler Fackrell).Having a dominant man in the middle to both eat up space and beat his blocker has been vital to the success of the run defense, and Clark has compounded has natural talents with the role that Mike Daniels is asked to play. The rookie of the year is a no-brainer for me, and a guy I just finished writing about: Jaire Alexander. This guy is legit. He has the speed, the handwork, the footwork and even the anticipation to be a future shut down cover man.Out of all of the recent draft picks on the Green Bay roster, Jaire’s future is the one I’m most excited for.

Ochocinco responded to Green’s achievement with a simple goat emoji. Alex Redmond, who went undrafted out of UCLA in 2016, went from practice squad to backup to starter in only three years. After paying his dues on the practice squad for a year, Redmond was given the opportunity to compete for the starting job at right guard in 2017. He lost out to fellow former UDFA and practice squad teammate, Trey Hopkins and remained a backup for most of the year. He did get a shot late in the season during some of the Bengals’ best offensive line performances of the year. But Redmond’s defining characteristics are his aggression and intensity, so he attacked the right guard spot when competition opened back up in 2018. This time, he won the job and will trot out with the first team on Sunday in Indianapolis.According to Paul Dehner Jr., the key to success is that “he’s found a way to harness his borderline crazy attitude without losing the edge.”“Obviously, you can find a million guys that do what I do,” said Redmond. “But I feel like I try to out-physical my opponent every play. Even if that initial battle I’m going to be like, he got under my chest, I’m going to try to work and win that block. It helps me win a lot blocks that I necessarily didn’t start winning from the beginning.”Clint Boling, who will be starting at left guard across from Redmond, wholeheartedly agrees.“You are kind of dialing him back sometimes and that sort of thing,” Boling said. “Most of the time you are trying to get guys to play hard and that sort of thing. For him, it’s the opposite.” Redmond played physically and intensely at UCLA, which is what attracted the Bengals to him in the first place. But they were unable to bring the best out of him in his first two seasons with the club, during which Paul Alexander was the Bengals’ offensive line coach. Everything changed when Frank Pollack entered the scene in January.Former offensive line coach for the Cowboys http://www.cincinnatibengalsshop.com/ch … son-jersey , Pollack came to replace Alexander, who was fired after 23 years of coaching the offensive line in Cincinnati. Apparently, Alexander was not a fan of Redmond’s style.“My new offensive line coach absolutely loves it,” Redmond said. “He loves everything about the physicality of all that kind of stuff. I’ve had other coaches in the past tell me to be something I wasn’t and they’re gone now, thankfully.”It’s pretty clear what Redmond means by “other coaches.” It’s probably not anyone from UCLA, where he started 13 games as a true freshman and declared for the draft after only three years.Alexander, on the other hand, was far too laid-back for Redmond. His coaching style clashed with Redmond’s playing style, and the result sent Redmond to the practice squad and the bench. But when Pollack came in, he brought a culture of intensity with him. He has been trying to get everyone on the offensive line to be more aggressive, but none have benefited more than Redmond. Pollack and and his new starting right guard are a perfect match.“He’s shown consistency in his physicality, which is important. He’s shown a steadiness in understanding the things (Bengals offensive line coach Frank Pollack) is teaching up front,” Marvin Lewis said of Redmond on Wednesday. “He’s continued to grow, and you see a maturation of his whole personality. His physical upside is tremendous. We now just need to fine-tune the little things he may have struggled with from time to time.”The right side of the offensive line is an area in which the Bengals are in desperate need of repair. If Pollack can get through to Redmond, the offense will be far superior to last year’s team that was plagued by the line.“If you don’t play, it sinks in very quickly. These guys are here and want an opportunity to play,” Lewis said of Redmond. “You can’t play when that is getting in the way.”The true test for Redmond will begin on Sunday against the Colts.
