Sunday on ABC News, Fauci was asked whether it's time to start relaxing indoor masks requirements. Fauci replied, "I think so, and I think you're going to probably be seeing that as we go along, and as more people get vaccinated."
The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention will be updating its guidance almost in real time, as more Americans get vaccinated, said Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases.
The CDC relaxed its guidance last month on wearing masks outdoors, but still advises both vaccinated and unvaccinated people to still wear masks in indoor public spaces, such as a mall, movie theater or museum.
"We do need to start being more liberal, as we get more people vaccinated," he added.
Sunday on CBS' "Face the Nation," Dr. Scott Gottlieb, former commissioner of the US Food and Drug Administration, said face mask requirements should be relaxed now that the Covid-19 risk is dropping.
"Certainly outdoors, we shouldn't be putting limits on gatherings anymore," Gottlieb said. "The states where prevalence is low, vaccination rates are high, and we have good testing in place, we're identifying infections, I think we could start lifting these restrictions indoors as well, on a broad basis."
Lifting pandemic restrictions when they are no longer necessary will make it easier for public health officials to reimplement them if cases rise again, such as a potential winter surge, Gottlieb said.The US probably will be back to normal by next Mother's Day, if enough people get vaccinated against Covid-19, Fauci said on ABC News.
"I hope that next Mother's Day, we're going to see a dramatic difference than what we're seeing right now," he said. "I believe that we will be about as close to back to normal as we can."
There are some conditions, he noted.
"We've got to make sure that we get the overwhelming proportion of the population vaccinated. When that happens, the virus doesn't really have any place to go," he said. "You're not going to see a surge. You're not going to see the kinds of numbers we see now."
White House Covid-19 response coordinator Jeff Zients told Jake Tapper on CNN's "State of the Union" Sunday that the country is "turning the corner" on the pandemic -- but stressed the importance of all Americans getting vaccinated.

Those guidelines differ from recommendations from the World Health Organization (WHO), which advises the use of medical masks for health care workers but says the widespread use of non-medical face coverings is not yet supported by high-quality scientific evidence.
There is ongoing discussion among medical professionals, researchers, and health care organizations about the effectiveness of face coverings. The CDC says that COVID-19 can spread from respiratory droplets produced when a person with the virus coughs, sneezes, or talks. The droplets may transmit the virus if they reach the mouth or nose of a person who is nearby. Experts do agree that coronaviruses like COVID-19 are transmitted by inhaling droplets from someone who has the infection. Masks can reduce the number of infectious viral particles that people exhale into the environment. A body of evidence from countries where more people are wearing masks and the rate of infection is low makes a strong case for wearing masks during a pandemic.
But researchers and various health organizations do not yet agree on how easily the virus transmits through the air. Experts say they are unsure about exactly how it spreads from surfaces or how often people who have the virus – but show no symptoms – can transmit the virus. So far, they have been working with information about other coronaviruses, such as the Middle East respiratory syndrome (MERS) and severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS).
According to some research, viral droplets are too heavy to travel more than about three feet. The 6-foot social distancing guideline is based on that finding. However, other data suggest that they can travel 23–27 feet in certain environments. Airborne particles are much smaller than droplets and can linger in the air for longer. Air currents also can carry them greater distances.
The CDC recommends that people wear cloth face coverings when leaving their homes, regardless of whether they have fever or symptoms of COVID-19. They advise not placing face coverings on young children under age 2, anyone who has trouble breathing, or is unconscious, incapacitated, or otherwise unable to remove the mask without help.
The WHO has given more specific recommendations. Outside of clinical settings (where all heath care workers and patients must wear medical masks), they encourage the use of non-medical fabric masks in areas where there are many cases of COVID-19 and for the general public where social distancing is difficult. This includes public transportation, shops and restaurants, and other confined or crowded environments. The WHO says any person with even mild possible virus symptoms should wear a mask. It makes the same recommendation for anyone caring for people with suspected or confirmed cases of COVID-19, for people age 60 or older, and anyone with an underlying health condition.

This is important, as the mask itself could become a method of spreading the virus if not cleaned properly. Most cloth face coverings can be cleaned effectively in the washing machine. You can treat them as part of your regular laundry loads, just like socks and underwear. Or you can hand wash them in the sink.
If you wear glasses, then you know that face masks can pose an additional challenge: foggy lenses. To help with this challenge, Stephanie Frankel, O.D., an optometrist with Bascom Palmer Eye Institute, offers the following tips:
Get a mask with an adjustable nose piece. Being able to adjust the fit of the mask against your nose and cheeks can help prevent foggy glasses. “Patients who are making their own masks can achieve this by sewing in a pipe cleaner or similar object to allow for adjustment,” says Dr. Frankel.
Add some tape. If your masks don’t have an adjustable nose piece, you can solve the problem with a piece of surgical tape over the top of the mask where it meets the nose and cheeks.
Treat the glasses. Another way to prevent foggy glasses is to treat the lenses. Dip them in soapy water, and then use a lens cloth to rub them clean. Or apply shaving cream to the lenses and clean them off with water. Both approaches leave a thin film on the lenses that prevents fogging.

“I don’t think this is the right time,” said advisor Mark McClellan, former commissioner of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, adding he was not consulted before the decision.“Texas has been making some real progress but it’s too soon for full reopening and to stop masking around others,” McClellan said in an email.From the start of the pandemic, Abbott said he would rely on data and doctors to guide state policy. But conflicting opinions from his medical advisers about one of the biggest shifts in state pandemic policy raise questions about how the choice — which has been widely panned by public health experts — was made.
State health commissioner Dr. John Hellerstedt on Wednesday didn’t explicitly answer whether he endorsed the plan ahead of time to end the mask mandate and let businesses fully reopen on March 10. Pressed by state lawmakers, Hellerstedt said he “did not have a personal conversation” with Abbott before the decision, but that his agency is in regular contact with the governor’s staff.
A third advisor, Dr. Parker Hudson of Dell Medical School in Austin, has said he was “not involved in this decision.”
And a fourth said he agreed with the decision, explaining it was initiated by Abbott and rested on the governor’s general comfort level with the pace of vaccinations, other medical improvements, and the notion that Texans know to wear masks and will continue to even without a mandate — an idea refuted by public health research.
“He brought it to us, he talked to us about it, he talked through it,” said Dr. John Zerwas, a vice chancellor with the University of Texas System. “And he said, ‘okay, this is when I feel like it’d be a good time to do it.’”The nation’s top infectious disease experts and President Joe Biden criticized Abbott’s decision to end restrictions next Wednesday, saying it’s premature and warning the move could lead to a new surge in the outbreak that has already killed more than 43,000 Texans.
Former U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention director Tom Frieden said the reversal of the mask mandate was particularly dangerous and could lead to a decline in their use.
“A mask mandate is about you not inadvertently killing someone,” said Frieden, who served during the Obama administration. “There is no argument for not having a mask mandate.”When asked Wednesday about defying some medical advisers, Abbott said he spoke with Zerwas and Hellerstedt.
“They both agree that because of all the metrics and numbers... now is a very safe time to open,” Abbott said Wednesday during a television interview on KFDX-TV in Wichita Falls. “Texans know how to keep themselves safe and they don’t need government mandates to tell them anymore.”

The answer, according to Heidi Zapata, MD, PhD, a Yale Medicine immunologist and infectious diseases specialist, is to keep it simple. “Basically, people need to wear a good mask and wear it correctly, over both their mouth and nose,” says Dr. Zapata. If a mask is uncomfortable, you’ll be less likely to wear it or keep it on if you do, she adds.
We talked to Dr. Zapata and other Yale Medicine infectious diseases experts to help answer the new questions that are coming up about masks.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) updated its advice on masks in early February after releasing new research that suggested virus transmission could be reduced by 96.5% when an infected person or an uninfected person wears a mask—but it must be a well-fitting one, worn properly. The CDC reached its conclusion after conducting experiments in which it simulated aerosol production from a cough and studied how those aerosols penetrated different types of masks.
New CDC guidance for improving mask use recommends a high-quality mask that fits well and has multiple layers of fabric. “This can be achieved by doubling up on masks, but that’s not necessary if you have one well-fitted quality mask,” says Yale Medicine infectious diseases specialist Richard Martinello, MD. (If you do double up, the CDC recommends wearing one disposable mask underneath a cloth mask, but wearing two disposable masks is not advised. The second mask should push the edges of the inner mask against the face, and the mask should fit snugly.) Material makes a difference in a mask—both the type and the amount, says Dr. Martinello. “Generally, cloth masks, especially cotton ones, are more effective than some of the synthetic materials such as acrylics,” he says. “At minimum, you want two layers, but three is generally superior to two.”
A tightly woven cotton mask with two layers of fabric and a pocket in between where you can insert a filter is another option, Dr. Martinello says. “Coffee filters have been tested and they work surprisingly well,” he says.
If your budget is tight or if you prefer to avoid vetting masks online, the CDC provides both “sew” and “no-sew” instructions for making a cloth face mask. The CDC has recommended against the use of N95 masks for nonmedical workers, saying they are still considered critical supplies that need to be reserved for health care workers and medical first responders.
But there may be other reasons not to use them. “People ask all the time if they should wear N95 respirators,” says Dr. Martinello. “While it’s very clear that they are superior in their ability to filter, we also know that they can be uncomfortable to wear and difficult to do so for prolonged periods of time. If someone is at work and they need to take their mask off because they are not comfortable, then there can be unintended consequences from that.”

A: Each piece is different. Things like money clips and bottle openers can fit a lot more than a bracelet or necklace. The jewelry was designed for short messages, or the signature of a love one who has passed. The more text you have, the smaller it will need to be engraved. I recommend short phrases. For a handwriting bracelet, I don’t recommend more than 15 characters per line, 3 lines maximum. For a necklace, a little shorter. We can range the text to fit best but it’s generally a good idea to keep your messages short. Like, “I love you! Daddy” or “You’ll always be my little girl”. If it’s much more than that, they text gets pretty small.
Q: My paper is from an old letter from my Nana and it’s wrinkled and written in the column of my favorite book. Can you work with that?
A: Usually the answer is Yes! We have yet to come across handwriting that we couldn’t do. If the piece requires significant editing, we may contact you before beginning your piece about an additional fee, but that’s not very common. Just take the photo in good lighting, daytime light preferred, and make sure it’s not blurry.

The menu navigation and overall design of the new watch configurator are based on the well-established Porsche car configurator. Just like the Porsche 911 range, the watch is digitally visualized down to the smallest detail to provide customers with a realistic depiction of their dream timepiece. "The rendering model is based on CAD data from our designers at Studio F. A. Porsche in Zell am See and our engineers in Solothurn," says Rolf Bergmann, Managing Director of Porsche Design Timepieces AG. Additionally, there are two different closing mechanisms to choose from: a butterfly clasp with lateral buttons or seven-step fine adjustment.
All leather straps are crafted from the same hides used for Porsche automobile interiors and come in the 14 official interior color options of the Porsche 911. The leather wristbands come with a butterfly clasp as well as side buttons for quick and easy release. Also, remember that the real body of either a hammer or a hanging man must stay close or be within the upper (lower) price range.
When this formation appears, traders say that the market is hammering out, and the reversal could be in the making. But the real essence of this candlestick pattern is best described by its Japanese name, “takuri”, which can be roughly translated as “testing the depth of the water by trying to reach for the bottom with a leg,” which makes a lot of sense when you look at its structure.
The rule of thumb for using both these patterns is quite simple: the strength, or the reliability, of a hammer or a hanging man depends on the length of the lower wick, the size of the real body, and the presence of the absence of an upper wick and its size. The most meaningful patterns have a very long lower wick, small bodies, up to the point where they look like a dragonfly doji, and a very little or no upper wick.
There is another hint regarding this pattern that we‘d like to share with you: when the hanging man appears at the presumed top of the uptrend, don’t rush into selling your position because the market is still running on the bullish steam, especially if the price movement is supported by the increasing volume, and there is a good chance that it would eat up the hanging man and continue pushing northward. Instead, wait for the next session to see whether the Forex market opens lower than the previous day‘s close. If that’s the case and the price drops with a considerable gap, the viability of the hanging man increases dramatically, and you can consider going short on that particular Forex pair.

A shooting star and an inverted hammer are basically a hanging man and a hammer turned upside down that also act as the reversal patterns that emerge at the probable finale of a strong trending movement. If the shooting star pops up when RSI, for instance, is deep in the overbought area (above 80), consider going for a sell or entering a short position. Moreover, when there is a divergence shown by any of these indicators (a discrepancy between the direction of the price action and the movement of indicators moving averages), the shooting star pattern at the top of the price swing would constitute a mighty strong sell signal.
As for the inverted hammer, it has a similar confirmation scheme: the gap to the upside on the back of the growing bullish momentum and rising price, but here it‘s important to take into account the color of the real body and the time during which the price holds above the hammer’s body and within the upper wick - the shorter it is, the higher is the probability that the reversal will pan out.
A shooting star, the hammers, and a hanging man are the only individual (single) candlestick patterns that matter in Forex trading - there are at least four types of doji patterns: the common, the long-legged, and gravestone, and the dragonfly dojis, but they work only in combination with confirmatory factors. Are two masks better than one?

New research from the CDC supports this. It has reported that transmission can be reduced by up to 96.5% if both an infected person and an uninfected person wear tightly fitted surgical masks or a cloth mask together with a surgical mask.8
But a WHO spokesperson, commenting in the hours before the new CDC guidance emerged, told The BMJ that it was not currently recommending double masking. “Based on the currently available information on the spread of variants of concern, WHO is maintaining its advice on the use of masks. We will continue to review evidence as it becomes available.”
Should the public be wearing masks outdoors?
The UK’s Scientific Advisory Group for Emergencies (SAGE) is considering this. In a recent paper that focused on physical distancing and face coverings in light of the UK variant B.1.1.7, SAGE said “using face coverings in a wider range of settings where people could be asymptomatic and may be in close proximity (less than 2 m)” should now be considered.9
The paper said, “Transmission in outdoor settings where people are distanced is likely to still be very low risk. However, it remains the case that if people are in close proximity for extended periods in an outdoor setting, there is a potential risk of transmission from the higher concentrations of respiratory particles near to an infected person. It is possible that this close range risk is greater with the B.1.1.7 variant (low confidence).”
The Department of Health and Social Care for England did not respond when The BMJ asked it whether the UK government was considering recommending masks outdoors.
Paul Hunter, professor in medicine at Norwich Medical School and one of the reviewers for the WHO mask guidance, said the advice may depend on the situation. “If you’re outside in a big queue, and people aren’t socially distancing around you, I would put a mask on. But if I’m just walking on a not overly busy high street [or] going for a walk around a village I wouldn’t wear a mask,” he said.
Hunter added that people should be careful not to get their mask wet, especially if they are then going to go indoors wearing the same mask. He explained, “If that material gets wet, you can’t breathe through the material, and the mask then loses much of its effectiveness. So if it rains and you’ve got a mask on, it becomes pointless because you can’t breathe through it. If it’s cold outside and your breath wets the mask, as it will do, it becomes much less useful.”
WHO has recommended that masks be worn outdoors when there is “known or suspected community or cluster transmission” and when physical distancing cannot be maintained.

So-called "double masking" -- or wearing two coverings over the nose and mouth -- improves fitted filtration efficiency, a measure of a barrier's ability to block particles, by up to 81%, the data showed.The analysis focused on the simultaneous use of commercially available cloth face coverings, which are typically not medical grade, with disposable procedure masks used in healthcare settings, the researchers said.
The combination is generally effective at sealing off the area from the bridge of the nose to below the mouth, restricting the release of the respiratory droplets that spread the coronavirus, they said.We found that enhancements that improve the seal between the mask and facial skin, including full-coverage masks such as gaiters or bandanas over procedure masks, were most effective at improving the performance of masks," study co-author Emily Sickbert-Bennett, told UPI in an email
"[This] leads us to understand that double masking is most effective because of the improved fit that it offers," said Sickbert-Bennett, an associate professor of infectious diseases at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill.
The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention began recommending double-masking in early February, when cases of COVID-19 were increasing in many parts of the country.Wearing of two coverings over the nose and mouth offers as much as 95% protection against the spread of the virus and could help contain the pandemic "until vaccine-induced population immunity is achieved," the agency said at the time.
For this study, Sickbert-Bennett and her colleagues measured the fitted filtration efficiency of single and double masks worn by three volunteers -- one woman and two men.A disposable medical procedure mask under a polyester gaiter offered the best protection against respiratory droplet release, effectively filtering out 81%, the data showed.
A procedure mask worn under a cotton bandana filtered out 77% of droplets released, while the procedure mask in combination with a cotton mask reduced droplet spread by 66%, the researchers said.
When used alone, the three non-medical-grade masks -- the polyester gaiter, the bandana and the cotton mask -- had fitted filtration efficiencies of just over 40%, meaning they provided the least protection, according to the researchers.
Disposable medical procedure masks worn alone reduced the flow of virus droplets by up to 60%, the data showed.
In addition, when the medical procedure masks were worn over cotton or polyester coverings, fitted filtration efficiencies ranged from 55% to 60%, they said.
This suggests that double masking with a cotton or polyester covering over a medical procedure masks offers the best protection against the release of respiratory droplets, the researchers said.
"The best form of double masking is when you and the person you are interacting with both have a mask," Sickbert-Bennett said.
