Homemade: Fake Rolex Exclusive Material Guide

For the times, the term "homemade" has a lot of meaning in the industry. When certain aspects of watch manufacturing are done in-house, companies typically retain more control over the design and manufacturing process. While some companies make their own timepieces, Rolex is one of the few companies that "make their own." In fact, there are several proprietary Rolex materials that the brand produces entirely in-house.

Here's a quick and helpful guide to some of the proprietary materials used to make Rolex watches.

Rolex Metal Alloys
Rolex has its own foundry and processes all the gold, platinum and stainless steel alloys used in its fake watches. This ensures that the materials on the outside of the watch are not always exposed to the elements, but are of the highest quality and durability.

Gold
In modern fake Rolex watches, all gold - no matter the color - is an exclusive 18kt alloy specifically developed by Rolex to give it the best strength, color and luxury. Known as Rolex Rose Gold Alloy, Everose is a special blend of rose gold that will not lose its warm color in salt water, chlorine, or sunlight.

Platinum
Rolex 950 Platinum is a platinum alloy made by combining 950 millimeters of platinum with ruthenium (a chemical element of the platinum family). As a result, it is a durable alloy that retains the luster and transparency of platinum and is suitable for everyday use.

Oystersteel
Currently, most manufacturers use 316L stainless steel for their replica magic watches; however, Rolex now only uses a special 904L stainless steel blend - formally known as Oystersteel, which is harder and more corrosion resistant due to its higher content of chromium, molybdenum, nickel and copper. Like the gold alloy specially developed by Rolex, Oystersteel steel is produced entirely in-house to ensure that it meets the brand's unsurpassed standards.

Rolex Interior& Exterior
In addition to the metal alloys that make up the case and bracelet of the watch, Rolex also manufactures a range of high-tech materials for both indoor and outdoor use. These highly specialized and unique Rolex materials range from extremely durable ceramic composites to specially formulated luminous lacquers.

Cerachrom
To overcome the problems of edge scratches and discoloration, Rolex has developed a new ceramic material called Cerachrom. Cerachrome is virtually impossible to scratch and its color is completely resistant to UV rays, chlorine, and salt water, according to Rolex.

Blue Parachrom
Another material unique to Rolex is blue Parachrom, which is used in her hair, a patented alloy of niobium, zirconium and oxygen. It took Rolex engineers five years to develop this material; however, it is unaffected by magnetic fields and has 10 times the shock resistance of traditional hairpins.

Syloxi Hairspring
While this is the blue Parahum used on many of Rolex's men's watches, many of the brand's newest women's imitation watches are powered by Syloxi hairspring movements. Rolex primarily uses a technologically advanced silicone hairspring (which is naturally resistant to electromagnetic and shock). Rolex calls the material "Syloxi" because it is coated with a layer of silicon oxide that makes it more resistant to temperature changes.

Chromalight
One of Rolex's most famous materials is the luminescent blue paint used on the hands and scales of many new Rolex watches.In 2008, Rolex released its own proprietary luminescent material, Chromalight.While it lasts slightly longer than its predecessor, the most noticeable change is the striking blue glow it gives to the faces of many new Rolex models, rather than the green of the old references.

In general, the term "in-house" implies that the company has control over this aspect of production. Throughout history, Rolex has repeatedly overcome the physical limitations of available materials. Rather than accepting these limitations, Rolex came up with new materials that allowed them to push the boundaries of the watch even further.
