LAGOS Jamon Brown Jersey , July 25 (Xinhua) -- Acute diarrhea has killed two personsin Lagos, Nigeria's economic hub from the 27 cases line-listed, asefforts to control the outbreak intensified, an official saidTuesday.

Jide Idris, Lagos State Commissioner for Health, told reportersat a news conference that the upsurge of acute diarrhea cases wasthe aftermath of flooding experienced by residents in some parts ofthe state following heavy rainfall in the last few days.

The council areas where the diarrhea disease was recorded wereShomolu, Oshodi-Isolo and Surulere.

Idris said the state government had put measures in place tocheck the spread of the disease.

The medical doctor told reporters that acute diarrhea diseasewith or without vomiting was caused by a bacteria diseasetransmitted through ingestion of food or water contaminated withinfective feces.

The commissioner appealed to Lagos residents to imbibe properhygiene including hand washing, washing of fruits and vegetablesbefore eating.

He also advised them to boil water from unsafe sources beforedrinking and always ensure that they cover their foods and waterall the time. Enditem
